Nor I
I am plagued with cramps now in my old age = my response to every one of them is to get up and walk it off.
I have never in my life felt the need to lie down when attacked by a leg cramp. They are painful as hell - yes. But my response is to work them out - not to call for a stretcher.
I call BS on these flops.
If it is really a cramp the player should be attempting to get off the field ASAP under his own power and a TO should be used if he cannot make it.
Stoppages of the game with no TO should be reserved for plausible contact injuries and should be done immediately after the contact.
If no bones are protruding or blood flowing, any "injury" that pertains to physical conditioning should be dealt with as a timeout - and if no timeouts left, a penalty.

Actual cramps are debilitating in the moment. They hurt like shite. But I doubt any of these are real cramps.

...coincidentally while taking signals from the coaches on the sideline.

shite I have. Calf cramps and foot cramps are the worst.
But they're coached to do that. If they have a cramp, or other issue, they are told to just lay down. That will initiate the injury timeout and the trainers can assess. It's better than catching a cramp, then trying to get off the field before the play gets off and have a substitution.
The bad part about this is the probability of abusing that process.
