can upgrade your scope without adding more magnification..what 3-9x50 do you have on your rifle right now?

I know I can but clarity isnt my issue. Being more precise with impact location at 150+ yards is what I'm trying to accomplish.

I have a Nikon prostaff 3x9x50. It's clear enough for my needs. Its not $1200 scope clear but Ive never had and issue.

Get quality binoculars. Inside 300 yards, you don’t need higher magnification unless you’re trying to make sure you don’t shoot a button buck when you’re doe hunting.

That's a good idea, but shooting in the field is not the same as shooting at the range. You'll have smaller groups shooting deliberately w/ a 16x scope at a target at the range, but it's unlikely you're going to notice any difference in accuracy in the field at >150 yards by shooting a quick shot w/ a 16x instead of a 7x scope. Have you missed deer or made bad shots because of your 9x scope? Due to the reduced field of view, you'll probably also be slower getting a shot off w/ the 16x scope compared to a 9X, as well. I also suggest getting a nice pair of binoculars. I use binoculars, not my scope, to better evaluate a deer in the field. Having said that, a really nice buck stands out pretty quickly w/ naked eyes at most hunting distances.

Once you start stretching out past 250 yards DOPE will start being your limiting factor not magnification.

I was in same boat as you. I started hunting Mississippi with shots out to 300/350. I’ve always had a 3x9x40 which worked perfect around Louisiana swamps and food plots. Yes you can technically still kill a deer out that far with that scope but I switched to 6x18 Vortex for confidence and precision. Definitely worth it.
