This would be an excellent time for LSU to make a statement on the ridiculous terms most SEC schools are providing for football HCs.

O has been a real bargain for LSU in terms of ROI. He's got his team overwhelming favorites to win the SEC, and looks to have a legitimate shot at winning the CFP (probably only tOSU stands in their way, and right now I'd favor LSU in that matchup). He clearly deserves to be paid according to his performance after this season - but what of his buyout?

I hope that LSU offers him a salary commensurate with the top HCs in the country - but with a zero buyout both ways. Instead, offer him the kind of deal that Bob Stoops had at Oklahoma a few years ago - a loyalty bonus for remaining HC at the school on a certain future date.

That way, he has incentive to stick around and not pursue other gigs (not that he's likely to do that anyway, since this appears to be his dream job), but also an incentive to continue to make the right moves on and off the field to ensure being successful enough not to get R-U-N-N-O-F-T.

Will they do it? Well, given that their current AD may have sabotaged his former employer's football program by handcufffing them to the most one-sided deal in CFB history, it's not likely. But it would make sense if they did.

LSU would be dumb to give him a high buyout. There is not a single job O would leave for. LSU holds all the leverage here.

Exactly.

It will be very enlightening to see what Woodward does with it.

It will be less than Jimbo Fisher’s $68M buyout with A&M.

There is not a single job he would leave for around the country. He loves it there. Having said that, there is not another high profile job around the country that will come calling for O either

If you don’t think USC is making that call you are a fool. And O would be a fool not to use it as leverage.

O will never have to pay for another bowl of gumbo or Red Bull again if he wins the Natty.

A fool I am I guess

They didn’t want him last time he was there. Catching lightning in a bottle with Burrow and Brady I doubt changes anything

He’s LSU’s to have so long as he keeps winning. Nothing else really matters.

It’s a great situation for LSU.

I’m sure he will be rewarded for his success but he’s not getting a crazy contract like Saban, Jimbo, Harbaugh, and Dabo.

Yes they passed up on him when he had a terrible head coach track record. He has obviously proven his value since they passed.

Isn’t the job of the head coach to recruit players to make his team better and to hire good assistants?

Why does Orgeron not get credit for doing so?

It’s incredible the lengths some of y’all go to to discredit the guy lol

Lots of us were understandably skeptical of the hire, but he’s upgraded the roster and hired some good coaches. He deserves credit for those decisions. He wasn’t lucky. He actively seeks to get the best guys out there and he’s doing pretty well in that regard.

But hey...if you wanna think he’s just lucky so you can ease the pain then you do you

Didn’t say he was lucky . Just said he is not a commodity on the coaching market . Y’all are too sensitive and I don’t understand why. O has done a great job as coach . In fact it was most LSU fans who didn’t want him when first hired and were not pleased after 74-72, L8U etc . But you do you

Not sensitive at all. Just don’t understand why the mental gymnastics to discredit his success. It’s an interesting display of hypocrisy though.

Nobody blamed Orgeron for 74-72 screw job. Everyone outside college station knows LSU won that game 4 times. That was just sad and the sec should be embarrassed for something that many can only laugh at the blatant incompetence and bias.

I guess it’s gotta suck to see a guy you laughed at outcoach yours and now has his program poised to be a powerhouse again.

The tears are delicious. SEC SEC!!

Well, first of all, the school won't be negotiating with Ed O but with his agent, and any agent worth his salt is going to try to get the biggest buyout they can get. Cause it means more commission for them. So good luck with that.

Maybe you didn’t see where I said he has done a great job this year? I didn’t laugh at O , I laughed at the notion that he needs a huge buyout bc USC or other big time programs are suddenly going to come after him . They are not . Most , if honest will agree. Y’all have had a great season and are in good position to play for / win a natty. Be comfortable in your own skin so to speak . You shouldn’t need others to validate your season or tell you how great you are .
