Nah, rifles are objectively better for defense.

In the light of day, probably.

At 3a.m., with little to no light, I'll take the shotgun loaded with buckshot each day and every day (night).

A pump shotgun also is the best for ending the fight even before it gets started. The sound made by racking a shell into a pump shotgun in the dark should get all but the most hardened criminal to exfile the home pronto, which makes it a better situation for all involved.

This is so stupid but gets repeated on every one of these threads.

Within the distance to a target that would be encountered in a typical home the pattern of even the shortest shotgun will be so small if you don't aim just like a rifle you will just as easily miss the target. Numerous YouTube videos demonstrate this as well as the wall penetration of various shotgun loads.

Anyone else make this decision simply due to corners and tight windows in their home?

Maybe my house is just small, but I don’t think I could shoulder and navigate well with a rifle inside.
