re: Do "Media markets" still play a role in G5 conference realignment?

I think it was more than quadruple.
I think the carriage charge was something like $0.10 / head for a non-Big Ten state and it jumped to at least $1 by adding a member institution to that market. So we are talking 10x or more increases in NY, NJ, MD, and DC for each existing subscriber, let alone new ones.

The WAC kind of did this in the 1990s with 16 teams
The current cusa and sun belt basically have the same foot print. Where the WAC was way too big.
If you mashed up the CUSA and sun belt, you have a chance for some good rivalries to build.

While there is some overlap, there are still way too many teams involved. 26 teams is way too goddamn many for one conference.

FAU
I believe until recently, they didn't even have all their games on radio.
Hell, they still may not.

People still listen to radio games?
I mean in this era every one of their games was on TV or streamed via ESPN+

Well why do that when all of FAU’s games can be watched on TV?
Posted on 11/13/19 at 8:28 pm to I Bleed Garnet
Because every fanbase has decided the announcers on tv hate their team so they need to listen their own radio guy

It might for basketball. I mean, AAC has strong, big-market programs like Houston, Cincinnati, Memphis and Temple--not to mention UConn.
Basketball maybe, especially if the team makes a run deep into the tourney.
But for Football? I lived in Houston half my life and I can never recall anyone asking for a bar television to be changed from anyone to the Coog High Game.

Cause you frickers who have weddings during football season.
Real reason: life. Causal fans can listen in while driving, mowing lawn/chores, kids events, and work.
It’s not expensive. If they can turn a profit on. Friday night high school ball....

They are FAU fans. They don’t have phones.

You don’t watch your phone while driving. Or working on your car. Or riding your mower. Etc.

Everyone but Jews. ;)

True. NYC is a fricking ghost town in Saturdays. Everyone cooks at home.
