in order for dripping the pipes to work, you need to make sure every branch line is running. so even a hose bib outside needs to run or it will freeze.
on a raised house, your pipes under the house should already be insulated. if not they need to be.
insulation on buys you time as it slows the heat transfer process. a long prolonged cold snap will still freeze insulated pipes.
I remember my dad under the house Christmas eve in the early 80's trying to thaw out the pipes in our house in the garden district in BR...... we had 3 straight days where it didnt get above freezing.

Yep. My pipes froze and busted a few years ago. After we repaired the pipes we insulated all of them.

I remember that. I was about 9 or 10. The ditch down the street in Village St George froze over. I walked on it one day no big deal. Thinking I was hot shite with a buddy the next day I tried it again. I fell in about 2 feet of freezing arse water.
