Back in the early to mid 2000s they were consistently an elite team but ever since 2011 they haven't done shite. It's not like California is missing talent and it shouldn't be hard to convince a poor kid to come to Los Angeles.

A combination of bad athletic directors and bad head coaches. If they get a coach somewhere in the good to elite range, they will be back to elite status.

I think people underestimate just how fricking good Pete Carrol was there. They hadn’t been good in 20 years before he got there, and he turned them into a damn powerhouse. Sure, they had success in their history, but like Michigan and Notre Dame, it’s not their birthright anymore you be great. They need a great coach. That was Pete Carrol.
