Despite strong financials, Humana is laying off 800 employees in preparation for a 2.5% tax that is going into effect in 2020.

That tax was created as a condition of passage for the Affordable Care Act. Several taxes on different health care industry businesses were created as part of that legislation, to ensure Congress wouldn’t dip into the federal budget and increase the deficit.

Thanks again, Obama.

The tax was passed on to consumers. Obozo, the gift that keeps on giving.

The left won't mourn these job losses and can't equate personal hardship to an overreach of government. The only gnashing of teeth you'll hear is if the white guys in the C Suite in Louisville get a bonus this Christmas.

In fairness, Baraaq never promised that you could keep your job if you liked that.

This sucks !

One good thing , I'll bet some of the people being laid off actually voted for jug ears.

That's sweet justice !

Hmmm. This tax has been around since 2014, however, it was suspended for 2019. It was charged in 2014-2018, though.

For 2014-2018, the method of calculation was different than it is now.

It was probably responsible for creating the 800 jobs, leading to increased expenses for Humana which caused an increase in premiums.

We’d be better off as a healthcare industry without Humana. They are the biggest pieces of shite in a steaming pile of pieces of shite

Yeah, this tax has been around forever but you think it is responsible for 800 jobs out of a 41k employee company? Did the Republican tax cuts not offset this?

Always remember the Democrats own it lock, stock and barrel.
The individual mandate to purchase health insurance is the first time in the history of this country the populace was forced to purchase a product just for existing. Hard working American taxpayers were forced to subsidize the coverage for others while incurring huge increases in their own premiums and having their co-payments and deductibles doubled. It was the Democrats who passed the law. We had to totally disrupt health coverage that many were happy with, had to endure a total revision of the healthcare system all for less than 3% of the population of this country. The Democrat Congress and President Obama passed a defective bill and paid the price for it. The Democrat Congress had to assure Obama got his signature accomplishment. The Democrats owned it lock, stock and barrel.
The. It would have been better for Congress to have allocated an assigned risk pool of funds to assist those who were shut out of the standard insurance markets by pre-existing conditions instead of this giant exercise in absurdity and lunacy.
Most people with Obamacare policies were unable to access their coverage due to prohibitive deductibles and co - payments. The Affordable Care Act was nothing more than a huge transference of wealth. It is amazing that a benefit which was previously provided by employers on a voluntary basis has now been placed under governmental control, forcing certain employers to provide the benefits or be fined, while telling them how the benefits are to be paid, how much they must pay, what is covered and deciding which of their employees lifestyles are to be subsidized by other employees.
In addition we were also being forced to subsidize health insurers through reimbursement corridors and subsidies when they were required to discard actuarial prognostications to assume any all risks with the knowledge that if their profits dropped accordingly the taxpayers would make up the difference. The courts have finally reigned in this assault on our constitution by the Obama administration.
When the Democrats were passing the ACA we were told, depending on the audience that there were 30,000,000 to 50,000,000 uninsured people in the country who would benefit from passing the ACA. Lets split it and call it 40 million uninsured. If those numbers were true then there should have been a stampede to sign up for coverage. The Health and Human Services claimed the number of signups the first year was 10.4 million. It was eventually exposed and finally admitted by the administration that they had lied and the number of signups was actually 6.3 million.
We were lied to again and again and again by the Obama administration. Jonathan Gruber, one of the plan's major architects confirmed the level of deceit by the Democrats. Hard working tax paying citizens were being forced to subsidize health care for others, meanwhile many lost their own coverage and were being forced to purchase insurance with higher premiums and higher deductibles and co-payments. Despite Obama's claim it would reduce premiums an average of $2,500.00 per family the costs actually rose exponentially.
