Anyone else get a laugh out of Justin Trudeau losing the popular vote in his election?

34.41% to 33.07%.

He formed a minority government and remained Prime Minister but I haven't seen many blue check marks talking about their golden boy losing the popular vote despite their skycreams the last three years over Trump.

Progressives are all NPCs; they don't care about their own hypocrisy if they notice it at all.

I don’t know about any of the shite you’re talking about, I am just glad you didn’t spell losing “loosing”. Thank you.

Minority governments don’t last long. His party will be out in a new election or he will be replaced by a new party leader in less than a year. He’s only PM now because some little shithouse party has him by the balls.

I don't know much about the Canadian system but doesn't this pretty much make him with very little power? A lame duck even?

National Popular vote isn’t relevant in almost all western democracies. France is the only major democracy who uses it that I am aware of, and they mitigate it somewhat with the 2 round system.

In other words no one anywhere, except for American liberals (in losing years) champion using nationwide popular to elect a chief executive

Minority governments are fairly common in Canada. A little less so in the other Westminster systems but the UK is operating with one right now

Important to note that majority/minority in that context refers to the amount of MP’s each party has, NOT the overall percentage of vote received. Parliamentary majorities are quite often won by parties receiving far less that 51% of the vote as a result of having multiple parties and single member districts

I would rather see it, where you went with simple votes. You know, you get 100 million votes, and somebody else gets 90 million votes, and you win. There’s a reason for doing this. Because it brings all the states into play."

Well, I mean, I’m not going to change my mind just because I won. But I would rather see it, where you went with simple votes. You know, you get 100 million votes, and somebody else gets 90 million votes, and you win. There’s a reason for doing this. Because it brings all the states into play. The Electoral College. And there’s something very good about that. But this is a different system. But I respect it. I do respect the system.

You know what's even funnier?

Maxime Bernier getting pissed and taking his ball home because conservatives didn't vote to make him their leader and instead gave Andrew Scheer that job.

He really thought that starting his own party, the People's party of Canada, and proclaiming himself leader of that party without a vote and no constitution was a good idea.

That idiot ended up losing his own seat to a conservative and the PPC did not win a single seat at all.

It's like Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio starting their own party after they lost the nomination to Trump and ended up losing their own senate seats.

The irony is that had Bernier been a good tory soldier, most of the party would be looking to him as leader of the conservatives after Scheer managed to lose to Blackface Trudeau.
