Is there some difference of when he’s traded?
Because the a Giants traded OBJ and they have dead money on their books for this year
Signing bonus. OBJ was paid the bonus by the Giants, so it counts as dead money against their cap if he was released or traded.

Honestly Dalton would be an improvement. I think he can atleast look competent with pieces around him.

Allbright: Dallas and Adams close

Don’t listen to Allbright

On Jamal Adams and the #Cowboys: I’m told the #Jets are asking for more than a 1st rounder (as they should) and that a deal right is not close or imminent. It could happen, but there isn’t momentum for it right now. 72 minutes to go.

Why the frick would jets trade away one of their few bright spots jesus

Pretty sure they would be off the hook for any dead money if they trade him to another team.
no i don't think that's right
they'd have to eat his signing bonus as dead money and the new team wouldn't have to deal with that cap hit or payment

It’s truly amazing watching these bad teams giving away their only elite talents while they are on cheap rookie contracts.
If you’re not gonna try to keep a guy like Adams, what are you going to do with the picks you get?
yeah this makes negative sense. what are they trying to do? appease greg williams?

The same reason that the dolphins traded Tunsil and Minkah. At some point you come to grips with the reality of the situation and understand that the whole thing needs to be blown up and start over. You don't rebuild around a safety. Trade him for a first round pick and have a strategy going into the draft on the pieces you want to replace. Look at the 49ers, it wasn't long ago that they were among the worst teams in the league

He won't resign and they can get multiple high draft picks. If you wait until next year, you have less leverage than this year

They didn’t get better by trading away their young core pieces.

i don't get this. the assumption is that they'll either sign an impact safety or draft another one down the road with a draft pick they acquire?
why not keep the young asset under a cheap deal for 2 more years and see where rebuilding gets you to within that time frame?

what major young piece did they deal to help that rebuild?

gonna take a 1st and two 2's IMO. our first round pick this year won't be that valuable(bottom half of the draft, I hope)
the sticking point will be the additional 2nd round pick. both sides will balk, nothing will happen

that's a problem for a few years down the road and may not even be true at that point (if it's even true today)

Maybe and maybe not, but it seems more than likely if they are willing to part with a talented rookie on a rookie contract
no. just no[/quote]
How so? The longer a player sits on his current team under his current contract gives a different team less time to negotiate, therefore the current team would have less leverage in negotiations . You want to trade a high pick and get one year or two years out of a player. As the years tick off the contract so does some of the value. Especially if you can't commit the player to signing an extension.
