Have you ever changed teams you pulled for? How hard/easy was it?

This is textbook 1st world problem.
I'm from Louisiana and love the Saints and Tigers, but since we didn't have an NBA team in my lifetime, I started following the Magic with Stanley Roberts and Shaq playing there. Moving to Florida around that time made it really easy to keep tabs on them (shout out to Sunshine Network).
This year with all of the changes and excitement surrounding the Pelicans, my sort of hometown team, I figured I'd try to change allegiances and make them my new NBA team to go along with my renewed interest in the league...............and it's not going well. I'm keeping up with the comings and goings with the Pels, but I still find myself more interested in how the Magic are doing. I guess I could follow 2 teams, especially since they are in different conferences, but I get the feeling my allegiances are going to be a hard thing to switch.
Have any of you ever done this for whatever reason? Was it a quick thing for you? I can't imagine if the Saints HAD moved to San Antonio and I felt that I needed to pick a new team that I would have made the transition quickly, if at all.

Gamecocks and Braves since birth. Those are it for me.

Growing up I was a raiders fan bc my rec league football team was the raiders. Thought it was sweet that we wore the exact same jerseys as an NFL team. That changed when I finally grew some sense

No. And honestly I don’t respect people as true fans if they have.
The only situation that is somewhat understandable is if you move and adopt the new city’s team as one you’ll cheer for unless they play your original team.

Married into Philly sports teams so Unless it’s the Eagles/Saints in the playoffs usually not a big deal
NBA: Pels/Sixers don’t matter unless it’s the Finals
MLB: Cubs/Phillies rarely good at the same time
NHL: Flyers

I've learned from years of moving and traveling and supporting teams in my new cities that it's impossible.
A deep fandom is rooted in our youth. The teams I rooted for as a child, for whatever reason, are the ones that still stick.
I've lived in many pro towns. Supported the team(s) in those cities, enjoyed championships in a couple but once I left those areas, that enjoyment of being a fan of that team went away. This is as a adult. I still remember the joy of the moments while there, but couldn't tell you what any of those teams are like now. I just don't care because it's not deeply rooted in me.
My youth teams though I still care and occasionally watch

I won’t even do that
The only situation IMO is understandable is if they move or contract the team

I was coming in here to roast you for being a bandwagon fan but that really doesn't apply here. It's ok to switch teams when it's to the team in your home state that didn't exist when you were a kid. If not, who the frick would root for the Thunder, Pels, etc.
I don't think I've ever heard someone accused of being a Magic or Pels bandwagon fan. You're good.

Grew up a rutgers fan, parents had season tickets in football and basketball for 20 plus years.
It was quite easy to become an lsu fan when i moved to baton rouge 15 years ago.
Giants will always be my football team, but i root for the saints now as well.
Im a die hard yankees fan, but i pull for the sf giants after living in Northern California for 5 years.

Never have, the hardest thing for me was going from a huge rams fan to hating and not watching the nfl right away.

I do it all the time. I was a Cavs fan, then a heat fan, then a Cavs fan again, then I find myself pulling for the Lakers in the last year or so. I’m their biggest fan.

Grew up a Brewers and Bucks fan, but after years of sadness and disappointment, my fandom was left behind when I moved. It was pretty easy because they were never on national TV so it was hard to follow them live. Don't really follow MLB anymore and now I follow the Pelicans.

I’ve never changed my #1 team, but frequently changed my #2 or 3 team for various reasons.
For example: during the 90’s and 2000’s, the Packers were my number 2 team because Brett Farve was my favorite player. When the Packers replaced him with Aaron Rodgers, I thought he was a douche and haven’t rooted for them since.
The falcons were my #3 team because of Michael Vick (until the dog fighting stuff)

I do this all the time. The “unless they play your original team” part is critical, but I’ve moved so much it’s impossible not to at least somewhat pull for other teams.
It’s still Saints through and through, for example, but I lived in Houston so I like them and Kansas City so I like them. If they ever played the Saints it wouldn’t even be a question, but it’s fun to have other rooting interests. I also pull for some teams if they have ex-Clemson players.

I was born in Louisiana, but moved to Houston when I was 7 or 8.
Growing up I was more of an Oilers fan than Saints because they were local and were on TV.
When I went to LSU, it was a year after the Oilers moved to Tennessee, so it made it really easy to switch allegiance to the Saints. And then I never had any connection with the Texans.
Now I live in TN, but I'm sure as frick not cheering for the Titans.

Penn State (childhood) to Tulane (alum).
Everything else is DC based except 76ers > Wizards.

If you didn’t change allegiance as soon as they moved but waited until now that there is excitement around them it only makes you a bandwagon fan.
