Alzheimers patients suffer like crazy. They have no idea wtf is going on and are constantly on edge and terrified. If I ever get it I'm sailing my boat into a hurricane to save me and my family the pain of it.

A family friend who's a retired pastor shot himself last year. The consensus was that he must have gotten a diagnosis.

I told my wife that if I was able and diagnosed, that I would just go somewhere to die peacefully instead of draining her and the kids to watch it happen.

If I am unable to just go I told her to wait until the first time I don't recognize her and then never come back. Have a service and be done. I'll be dead at that point anyway. When you get the call that my body finally kicked the bucket, have em burn me and bury the ashes.,

and they realize bit by bit things they will never be able to do again over a period of years

A big reason I am not too concerned about being fat is I would prefer a massive heart attack to either alzheimer's or cancer, having experienced a parent with each of them.

You got lucky. Good for you. I honestly hope it stays that way for your grandma. But not everyone is “pleasantly confused”. Seen people crying in their own shite, writing in their own shite, and chewing their own shite covered nails. Saw an old lady with a broken humerus. Broken in half. If you left her in a sling it was a legit choking hazard. She pulled off every splint. I can still hear those bone ends crackle against each other as she’d try to use that arm to pull at the side rails of her bed. She’d make a little wince and go “ewww” evertytime they’d crunch. She was to gone to register real pain or scream.

Not all are alike.

Not all. I work as a consultant in a nursing home and some are so happy it’s ridiculous. They forget everything but they’re happy and pleasant.

Now there are those who are miserable, ugly, pissy people but it’s just part of it for some.

We love them regardless.
