It appears Hillary and Chelsea Clinton — who typically present a united front when it comes to just about everything political — aren't exactly on the same page when it comes to transgender self-identification, the Daily Mail reported.

While promoting their co-authored book, "The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience," the pair sat down for an interview with The Sunday Times — and journalist Decca Aitkenhead asked them if someone with a beard and a penis can ever be a woman.

Chelsea Clinton said "yes," the Daily Mail said, citing the Sunday Times piece.

But Chelsea's mom looked "uneasy" about the concept, the outlet said.

"Errr. I'm just learning about this," Hillary Clinton replied, the Daily Mail said. "It's a very big generational discussion, because this is not something I grew up with or ever saw. It's going to take a lot more time and effort to understand what it means to be defining yourself differently."

But the former Democratic presidential nominee was more certain about other issues.

Aitkenhead noted that when she noted to Hillary Clinton that many British feminists of her generation disagree with the notion that a "lesbian who doesn't want to sleep with someone who has a penis is transphobic," the outlet said.

While Hillary Clinton nodded in agreement, Chelsea "stiffens and stares at me," the journalist recounted, the Daily Mail said.

Further, it was posed that many women of Hillary Clinton's generation are uncomfortable with biological males sharing women's bathrooms — to which she nodded and replied, "I would say that, absolutely. Absolutely. Yes," the outlet said.
