Anyone else feel like "Joker" wasn't really about the actual Joker?

It's a great movie with great acting obviously - but I kinda feel like some chode wrote the perfect script for a Falling Down sequel - Falling Down 2: The Asylum but to sell tickets they rebranded it a Joker origin story, changed some names, and tweaked the ending.

It's great, like I said, just doesn't feel like the Joker. He's WAY too reactionary and passive to be the iconic villain. Better said, he's victim not a villain.

I mean...Phillips has pretty much said it was a way for him to sneak an art house film into a comic book movie.

I get what you are saying....and yes, you could have removed the clown aspect of the move and it would not have impacted the movie. He could have been a pizza driver and the symbol of revolt have been pizza.

I didn't know that - but it definitely feels like a different movie was snuck into the genre.

It was essentially two hours of chronicling the mind of a serial killer

Too many folks aren’t giving enough credence to the fact that this is an origin film for a character we’ve only ever seen fully realized.

Many great comic book movies are "something else" pushed into a comic book movie.
Logan: Western
The Winter Soldier: Spy movie

It was basically Taxi Driver but with Joker. I thought it was a brilliant film and he pulled off the character so well.

You keep saying this, but Phillips has been known to have been working on a script for three years now, and the early talks to get Scorsese involved, his co-producer actually coming on board, and the obvious homage to Sorcese's previous movies makes the chances of this being a reworked script pretty nil.

It is an origin story...It’s not like Hitler started off with The Final Solution.

Just come to terms with the fact that JP put out a better Joker portrayal than hl. Some of y'all are trying way too hard to shite on this movie.

It was two completely different portrayls for two completely different types of movies. both actors did a phenomenal job. Can't say one did a better job than the other. You could say I prefer Todd Phillips' joker to christopher Nolan's joker.

Not to mention there is no one true origin of the joker considering dc conics have different stories of his origin

The Joker doesn't really know his own origin. The comics establish that clearly.

Because he wasn’t the Joker for like 80% of the movie

He wasn’t a villain yet

The Bruce Wayne in this movie is way too short to be Batman.

The comics origins for Joker are purposely hazy.

This was a great movie but it's not the Batman Joker.
