Pretty sure this is the column to column splice detail.

What rapier wit!
Should I do that in Seattle or New Orleans?
PROTIP: They're not the same city.

Guess I'm not following what you're getting at. Yeah the columns have spices, but that doesn't means they're weak, and that elevator shaft steel is braced up like a MF'r... Sized properly, don't know, but structurally, it looks OK to me. Problem IMO is, those deck panels with no intermediate steel, were underdesigned not only for the gravity loads but lateral loads as well. The deck is supposed to create a diaphragm that transfers lateral loads from the unbraced column lines to the braced elevator shafts, which I doubt a panel size that big could do (it would possibly buckle the deck panel).

Well the crane is shorter than it was before so let’s celebrate that as a success!
Yeah that one crane looks even more dangerous than it did before.

I have a question about the laying of the pans. The section that fell had pans running in an east west direction, whereas the section south of them had pans north/south.
Is this the way it should be?

I realize this is a stupid question, because there will always be perpendicular support.

Fwiw, nothing landed there. The hole was dug earlier in the week to access some utilities.

No fall protection or even barricades? What's another lawsuit at this point?

So if “everything went exactly as planned” as Latoya and the fire chief says it did, why haven’t they gotten the bodies out like they said that was the main reason for the crane implosion?
Are they just going to let those bodies decompose and let the rats eat them to the bones?
What was the point of the failed demo on Sunday?

The hole is filled in and behind barricades monitored by NOPD

I would imagine that until the overhead cranes were removed recovery teams were deemed too at risk for recovery efforts.

What about that yellow thing poking out of the ground a few feet beyond the hole? It sure looks like something landed right there.

Let me get this right, you are saying that piece of crane in the background is not sticking up out of the ground?
Posted on 10/22/19 at 7:38 pm to Kcrad
The hole in the foreground. Geez.
Not sure if the crane is actually stuck in the ground or not.

Gotcha. Yes, I do think the crane is stuck in the ground. Probably about 10 feet or so.

I'm mixed on if it was just a good dent or actually penetrated the ground. Making it through the new road with packed base would certainly be impressive though.
