I've always had insomnia myself, even when I was a baby and small child I didn't nap at all. As I got older I tried everything to "fix" it and found things that worked, but all of them would make me feel worse than just not sleeping.

Now I just lean into the insomnia instead of trying to fight it. I get stuff around the house done late at night, keep myself entertained, and don't let the thought of "WHY CAN'T I SLEEP!" drive me crazy.

I learned the key for me was never laying down before I was positive I could fall asleep, and not rushing it before then. I sleep maybe 2 hours a night and wake up feeling great. There's some nights I don't sleep at all and still feel great.

Some people just don't need 8 hours, but they drive themselves crazy trying to get it. The crazier it makes them the more pressure they put on themselves, the more they're in their own head, the more it becomes the thing that actually keeps them awake. It's a viscious circle.

Jesus I’m sorry to hear that. I have chronic pain from Thoracic outlet syndrome and haven’t been able to get a good nights sleep in months.

I’m so afraid of becoming addicted to sleeping pills but If I don’t take something I’m up all night

I can go and go and go and will eventually crash. I rarely sleep more than 2 hours without waking up. If i wake up I either watch tv, play a game on my iPad or just lay there. If I wake up anxious, I’ve been known to leash my dogs and take them for a walk. We don’t do that much, but sometimes it’s the best thing.

I also have a meditation app on my phone that I use sometimes.

Someone who’s never dealt with insomnia really just doesn’t get it. It can be brutal. There are days I’m so tired that all I want to do is cry. I usually crash shortly thereafter
