Does the flag fly at half mast more often nowadays

It seems to me that when I was a kid we only used to fly half-mast for really important deaths (i.e. political/religious leaders, national tragedies, etc). Today, though, I see American flags half-mast around town what seems like weekly, maybe more. Do we choose to honor more people’s legacies now or is there just better spread of I formation now? I don’t necessarily disagree with it, just curious.

My flag is always at half mast nowadays.
Too old.

half mast
Otherwise it’s correctly referenced as “half staff”.

Depends where you are. The POTUS decides national flag lowering incidents via a website, but the flag was lowered for Kathleen Blanco's death statewide here in LA. But to answer your question, yes, it is lowered now more, especially when civilian deaths happen.

I think it’s been lowered here around Houston lately bc of the Sikh cop who was killed.

I’m Houston too. That’s what prompted the thought, I saw it on the AIG building leaving for work

I agree. We used to be a proud Nation. It should be flown higher in bad times. It's a symbol of strength and unity.

A lot of times it is people doing it on their own without following the flag code. Not a huge deal but I have noticed it as well.

I noticed this the other day and made a comment to my bud. It seems like it’s always flying half mast
