I think the injury makes Brees more likely to keep playing than previously

I think most would agree that had he stayed healthy, played the whole season, broke the all time TD record along the way to a SB he was going to ride off into the sunset.

But, now that he’s missing games Brady has caught up and ahead of him and will likely break it first. Now this makes it likely Brees might never break it unless he plays longer than Brady or just goes ham the rest of the season.

Not only that, but look at the guy in pregame and during the game. He’s like a lost puppy without his routine. I think he’s getting a taste of what post football life is like before having to make an offseason decision and could see him saying, hell look how good this team is, I don’t want to just chill on the coach pretend going through reads.

Bridgewater story is no doubt a great one, but, if Brees wants to play til his arm falls off that’s who I’m riding with.

Brees is coming back after the bye week, the Saints will win out through the Super Bowl for any game they try to win, and Brees will retire after his second Super Bowl MVP. Payton will refuse eye contact with Goodell while accepting the trophy.

it's seeming more likely that Brees may be back for the Arizona game before the bye week

I'm ok if we roll with Teddy for this one. No need to rush Brees

If Brees says he's good to go along with doctors and staff and
If Drew is throwing like before I don't care when that is.
Get on the field.

If you read Brees book
He was taught by Flutie to NEVER let your backup see the field.

Brees will comeback ASAP, probably ahead of projection.
Yes I agree this increases odds of playing next year.

I dont think this has a direct impact on his potential retirement. The only thing that I think has an impact is the superbowl. If we win, the chances of him retiring goes up. If we lose, the chances go down

If Brees wins the SB he’s retiring.

I’m all for him NOT retiring but he wants another SB really badly and I think that’s pretty much the only reason why he’s playing

Part of the silver lining of his injury, besides forcing the rest of the team to play at a higher level, is he shouldn't see a late-season fade in his arm strength when the playoffs roll around.

Honestly, the way we are winning with Teddy, Drew could play until he’s 50 and we’d still be good. Drew at 50 may be a lot better than other options. I’m not saying he’ll play until he’s 50. I’m saying he would be serviceable for many more years until he decided to hang it up.

Yep I’ve said the same thing on here. Maybe 2/3 more years. Brady playing has to be a factor as well.

I agree Brees will retire if we win this year. If we don’t though I agree with the OP this injury might give us a better chance of getting him to stay.
