Were talking about players likeness, their own likeness. Atkins included.
If this rule got instituted everyone would have the right to do whatever they can for themselves. Delpit, Atkins, and whoever else. Nobody is being unfairly treated or punished. Either your brand/likeness has monetary value that you can capture or it doesn’t.
What’s the problem???

They have the right to do whatever they can and be paid for their likeness today.

The problem is that it only benefits the few, and alienates the many. The problem is that you have to be a fool not to realize that once players are allowed to be paid royalties, they are no longer amateurs. If you turn college into minor league type of system, you kill opportunities for a lot of kids to play college sports.
And Cadello brings up an excellent point above. If you allow the pay for likeness idea, then certain schools could stand to benefit in a disproportionate way. Think Adidas with Kansas, and as Cadello mentioned, Nike with Oregon.
Your view is too narrow to see anything but what sounds simple and rosy. It's nowhere near as simple as you want to believe it is. If it were, this would never have been an issue.
