My opinion on this is California can do what it wants but they're under no obligation to participate in the NCAA. People always seem to forget that. Nothing is forcing these athletes to participate in NCAA athletics. They are more than welcome to join semi-pro leagues or train on their own until the professional leagues will allow them to play. The NCAA isn't the most lily white of organizations but they tell you the rules up front. No need to legislate them away when you're under no obligation to participate in the first place.

ETA: On top of that this is just going to make the rich richer. College football is already contracting because parity is shrinking and this is going to exacerbate it. It's a damn shame.

ETA2: Lebron James weighing in on this just rubs me the wrong way. He never even participated in NCAA athletics. Why is he involved in this? Are these kids truly that taken advantage of?

Let’s see if the NCAA tries to stick it to California with regards to teams and events like they did with Mississippi, North Carolina, etc over shite like the Confederate flag and tranny bathrooms.

My point being that this is a case of something directly contrary to the NCAA and its mission, as opposed to the latest SJW controversy du jour.

If teams can pay players in California but not 49 other states, it either opens floodgates for those 49 other states or requires a foot be put down on California.

Was LeBron even that involved in this before the NCAA went against his piece of shite best friend?

I would if the NCAA came right out and said all California student-athletes are now ineligible due to the new rule

This is what should happen. More power to them. Don't be part of amateur athletics. The PAC 12 is dying anyway.

Do you have evidence of this or are you just making it up?

I’d bury them in paperwork.

Make them account for every single student athlete and whether they have received a cent from this.

Anyone who does is immediately suspended and has to apply for reinstatement.

If a school doesn’t turn in paperwork or clearly forged it, every athlete at the school is now ineligible but may be open to transfer upon review of their case.

Former D1 Guy here. So let’s see you earn an athletic scholarship to a university. Am I any different than a regular academic scholarship kid? Ya damn well right I am. I have to bust my arse for those two a days, game prep, studying all while maintaining a full load like that academic kid(shite we might be the same major). You want to give me a stipend that barely covers the rent plus food and then perform at a high level plus the university is making millions off my likeness but I don’t get a taste of that? Come on now let’s be real here. Now how many kids are actually going to profit from this? Probably just the elite ones. Will they launch NCAA 2023 and all of the players get a Lil taste of the licensing revenue? shite yea they should. It works out for both parties.

Look at attendance of games. The talent is pooling at the top as much as it ever has been. College football is headed on a downward slope if something doesn't restore parity a little bit.

So you don't have actual evidence of contraction.

The NCAA can’t do a thing there is provision in the law stopping them from doing it.

Amen brother! most people have problems with the NCAA but if they don't stand firm and allow one state to dictate to the rest of the national how college football is governed then the organization should be dissolved.

California can dictate NCAA rules and procedures?

I don’t see any bids for regionals in California to be approved anytime soon if that is the case. Make em fly as far as possible to play.

Do you know how many kids are at universities who have their tuition, books, food, rent, medical/dental, and academic support covered because of academics?
