When the Des Moines Register asked how they had found the information on Carson, they said it was during a routine background check on him laughable). But they didn’t do a background check of an employees past social media posts!
The reporter got what he deserved, but the Des Moines Register is also complicit.

Because the leaders STILL don't see a problem with what they did.
They only see a problem with the reporter's past

That's the best part
The idiots in charge said that once they found the information they felt obligated to publish it so readers would know who they were associating with.
Yet they don't feel the same compelling interest to dig into their own employees backgrounds
and this isn't surprising because it was just a few weeks ago that there were people in the press complaining about they're journalists being silenced using the same tactic the journalists were using against regular people
Journalism is dead if it was ever alive

Notice the only story you hear about is the sign guys tweets. Stories such as this one is buried like last weeks garbage.

Everything about this story is appalling and the Des Moines Register deserves anything bad that comes its way. If someone is doing something immensely charitable what difference does it make what their background is? Concentrate on the good that’s CURRENTLY being done.

I'm surprised he was fired.
No worries though, Filth run the media, and some other outlet will gleefully hire him. Likely pay him more.

Anybody have any insight on how this is going over in Iowa? I hope there is significant blowback against the paper.

Carson (ISU fan) will be at Kinnick for the Wave at the end of the first quarter Tomorrow. The ovation he will get is going to be yuge.

JBird said the paper has lost 12,000 subscribers. According to a google search their circulation is 59,365 Daily and 105,371 Sunday (2017).
I'd say that's a fair chunk if true.

If they are not in the red already, losing around 20% of their subscribers will ensure they are in bad shape.

Oh wow. Good to hear that Iowans are holding them accountable.

This is even more fricked up than the original posting and frick all of you closed minded fools who are celebrating this.
According to the facts given out, it came out as a result of standard background that gets done by everyone. It was brought up to management, who elected to publish it. There has been account after account stating this. That it was an editorial choice, not a journalist one.
The guy who just does his job gets fired as a sacrificial PR scapegoat but the people who made the actual call get off free?
And there are people applauding it?
Congrats, you have become the thing you hate in this “cancel culture” war

E edition of the Rag.
After 35 years of subscribing to my paper my weekly papers were stopped. I could continue to get just the Sunday paper for $32 a month. However, I could get the Sunday paper plus the E edition for $34 a month and they provide the IPad.
Go figure.
