Les was inducted first, but he shouldn’t have been.
Saban built the LSU football program as you now know it.
I’m not even gonna say Miles won because of Saban’s players or that he wasn’t a good coach in his own right — but a lot of ppl don’t realize that Nick did a lot of things outside of just coaching football games that LSU will be reaping benefits of for years to come.
Facilities, fundraising, just generally lobbying for resources needed to compete for championships, etc. Arguably as instrumental as Emmert was.
Everyone arguing that Les won more games blah blah blah needs to understand that none of that would have been possible without Saban’s contributions.
Call me when Les turns the Jayhawks around. That’s almost how irrelevant LSU football was when Saban arrived.

He turned Oklahoma State around.
And no LSU was never and has never been as bad as OSU and Kansas. You don't know shite about LSU history if you actually believe that.
Every coach knows you need upgrades. What? LSU never did any upgrades under Les?
Curly hallman made them put in an indoor practice facility. Saban benefited from that when others in the country weren't doing that.
Georgia just got one last year.

quote:No. Way overboard with that. Kansas is a perennial loser.

LSU is an all-time top 15 team. I don't know too much about before the 50's, other than Y A Tittle played here, and we had some nice teams.
But definitely from the 50's on (as the SEC took form), LSU has been consistently contending. Won the SEC in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's.
Exposure- today it's social media, before it was ESPN, and before that it was radio. Regulations were different for broadcast back then, and 870 was a clear channel that reached over half the country at night. LSU was one of the few college teams you could hear play, instead of just read about in the paper.
LSU in the 90's was like Tennessee now... you think it's all over, but the program woke back up. And Saban didn't start that, Dinardo did. Saban completed the recovery.
And it still wasn't where it is now; Saban's 2003 team was the most challenged and disrespected title winner in modern times (outside of BYU). LSU was good, but 2003 was considered a fluke, especially after 2004. We were expected to contend for the SEC, not the national title.
Miles was the coach who took the team the next step, with 2005-2007 cementing LSU as not just good, but a perennial Top 5 program. He then made several more runs that kept us there when the media wanted to dismiss us.
Saban is a great coach, but if you are talking LSU only, he's behind Miles. You don't get into the Louisiana HOF by winning titles at Alabama. Bear's not in our HOF.
