Just did some checking around on V Series.
They seem to hold their value really well. Especially the V Wagons. Figure on 50K for one of those. The second gen sedans are all well over 20k.

In the same way a MR2 reminds lay people of a Ferrari.

Cheap Mercedes are extremely expensive. Do you homework! Less than $20k will likely be a money pit. Check out Hoovies garage on his E55 wagon purchase.
- The cheapest and best value would be an R129 V8 if you don’t need 4 seats.
- Mercedes through from 00-06 were sketchy. I would avoid any _55 other than a G unless it’s very clean.
- check out Bruce_M auctions on BaT. He sells some well sorted Mercedes that sometimes are no reserve that people downright steal. BaT $25k ‘07 S65
-V12 require more maintenance. Make sure all the maintenance is already done.
-_65 brakes are crazy expensive. Make sure they are new(ish).
I’ve watched from afar and really want one.

Bruce sells a lot of v12 mercs on BaT. The stories behind the stories are pretty entertaining when they come out.
Making sure the maintenance is done isn't as important as making sure you aren't paying for it like the maintenance is done. A good and fair mechanic is important.

Clean, lower mileage CTSV wagon 6spds are closer to $70k.

The maintenance is why the depreciate so bad.
I considered a 645Ci a number of years ago but then checked maintenance. $5-6k for valves seals that they all end up needing.
Pass.
Just looked one up. Only $4995 for a '05 645Ci with 105k.

I’ve been looking for the W124 500E from 90-95 but can’t find one affordable. It was subbed out to Porsche and only about 1500 made it to the US. They are running $60k now.

They went off in price due to a few youtube videos last year.

The 6 speeds have to be pretty rare on a car that is already fairly rare.
Awesome cars.

Very true.
I would feel much more comfortable buying a car from an open checkbook-type previous owner though.

Meh, not much to say in the way of preventitive maintenance. Kind of a pay as you go.
You aren't preventively changing coil packs or fixing door actuators before they fail.

Depreciation is nuts on those (luxury cars) things.
Because they are maintenance heavy after 100k miles and it’s all expensive. Few people are ballsy enough to take that on, so supply is higher than demand. I have an S550 and I won’t keep it past 50-60k miles.

Let me know when it comes up for sale. Perfect age in my mind.

Cheap now but remember service is still at MSRP if something breaks. If you want a great car, save up some more and look for a 996 Porsche Turbo.

Because they're usually pieces of shite past 100k. People that shell out that type of money aren't concerned about longevity. I will say I partake in Lexus LX/GXs, they're among the exceptions.

Not two months ago you started a thread whining about your wife not letting you get an AMG S class with over 60k miles on it...

Yeah that E63 is nice. 77K miles.
I can keep it 10 years and still be under 100K mi.
Let me watch some YouTube vids and get pumped.
IDK if these e63 has the same head bolt problems as the E class in that time period. I think that's a $4K+ job.
Known head bolt problems.
