re: For all the people that are complaining about the run game

I liked what I saw from price sat night
Most of these young backs coming out of HS have NEVER had to block much for anyone - or worry about reading defenses for blitz patterns. And how is he at finding the sweet spots on the checkdowns?

Didn't Brady say in the preseason that the RBS didn't com here to block?
I feel like we didn't throw to RBs as much last game.

Well these next two games are perfect to get these young backs time..... I believe you only want CEH in there so it will help Burrow get numbers. If we had a game breaking back his numbers would go down....
I really believe that’s what you want......

I think LSU and Alabama are in kind of the same place. Their qb’s are playing at such a high level it’s hard to complain about lack of RB production

You can quote metrics if you want, I'm going on the eyeball test. The running game needs improvement.
Price is the only guy who looks like he's running downhill. Helaire might be making some yds, but he looks like he's fighting for every inch he gets. Emery looked like Fournette running against Bama's D Line. Guys are getting swarmed in the backfield.
This is happening against teams where the scheme shouldn't matter.
We're going to face tougher defenses down the road, and all those passing yds will be great- until we get inside the 10.

This whole "running game sucks" narrative comes directly from the Nega-Tigers group-think talking points.

Coach O: "Put in the 4 minute offense?"
Brady: "No! They can't fricking stop us!"

I'm fricking thrilled with the passing attack we're seeing. I've had half a mind to write a post apologizing to you for doubting your hype of Burrow. I thought you were jumping to too much hyperbole, but the truth is, you actually undersold Burrow  .
My big concern, is that our runs look weak when we do it. It's been barely enough to keep the defense honest. And different scheme or not, these are the same players as last year, they should know how to run block.
This should not be the case. At this point, defenses should be aware that we're pass-first, and the box isn't crowded at all. The occasional run should be something that catches the defense off-balance, and we should be ripping chunks off when we do it. Helaire is grinding away after contact, which is fortunate, because he'd have maybe 10 yds a game if he went down when he's first hit.
Somebody posted the "efficiency" of the runs this year, and that's nice. Let's revisit that list after we play big boys, instead of a Sun Belt, Big 12, and FCS team.
I'm not advocating changing the scheme up, I'm saying fix the damn run game. It's not clicking yet.

Burrow wasn't completing passes at an incredible rate then I would be concerned. This team is a passing team and that's just how they're going to move the ball
Agreed. The efficiency makes it okay. That'll die off a bit going forward, but if burrow can get a comp rate of 70% and 9-10 yds in sec play...you keep doing it.

He hasn't faced an SEC pass rush yet. I'd like to at least run well enough to keep those D linemen from coming out of the blocks like olympic sprinters

question for the gurus out there:
It's called a run-pass option. Are the linemen just pass-blocking every down (to avoid penalties on passing plays), and the QB decides to hand off if he thinks it's good?
If that's the case, that could explain the weak push we're seeing. The O Line would just be trying to tie up their man, not pancake him. And if that's what is happening, we need a back that can see the hole and hit it hard, and get through the initial arm contact he'd encounter (and of course, know his assignments in the passing game). Helaire is getting tied up at the line, not breaking out clean.

2018: 43%
2019: 50%
But so far 2019 has included 2 cupcakes and a B12 defense.
We should have been able to blow some pretty big holes through GaSo and NWS!
I'm worried that we won't be ab;e to run at all against a tougher D... And you know that tougher D is coming.

The running game is average at best, and thats probably a compliment. I'm not completely sold on CEH, he runs tentative...but he's been fine so far.
I'm not advocating running it more BTW...just better

Everybody is eating. Our running backs are catching passes in space. I'll take it any way I can get it. Whatever the hell it takes to move the chains!

Yep, we do need Emery to develop quickly so that we can have a legitimate run threat against Florida and Alabam. But we run from shotgun. Folks better get used to it.

Also I don't foresee any house calls being that teams are sitting back in coverage. But we should be knocking out some 10-12 yarders more regularly.

One reason the run game hasn't been as dynamic as some would like is that opposing teams have still been playing us as a run first team and concentrate on stopping the run first. By the time they stop believing that, Joe has torched them for over 300 yards and a bunch of touchdowns. Our offense is all about taking what the defense gives us with Joe being the decision maker. Hell, I love it! Let them keep bringing those linebackers in and occasionally stuffing us on the run. That just leaves the middle open more for those great throws.
