From Cody Worshams twitter:

How often is LSU getting the yards it needs on the ground?

LSU rushing +EPA% (percentage of rushing plays that added to expected points).

2016: 47%
2017: 48%
2018: 43%
2019: 50%

For context, this stat looks at running the ball like this: a 4 yard run on third and 3 is WAY more valuable than a 9 yard run on 3rd and 13.

Couldn't get 2015 to load in database at first, but just worked.

2015: 50.5%

Pretty good running back group that year.

If Burrow wasn't completing passes at an incredible rate then I would be concerned. This team is a passing team and that's just how they're going to move the ball.

The pointis, We're going through the air whenever we want, and we're getting yards on the ground at a very efficient rate.

As a matter of fact, it's the most efficient running game we've had since the literal best running back in school history was carrying the ball.

Thanks for this.

I, also, wonder about RB production as a whole. Meaning: I don't have a huge distinction between a RB being handed a ball or pitched a ball vs a short toss. In any case, the RB gets the ball and can do his thing.

If Emery "rushes" for 15 yds and gets 85 yds from screen passes - that is 100 yds of RB production to me.

People are still looking at our run game through the lenses of the I formation and les Miles old offense. I think we have to learn to control the ball more. Which in turn will help our defense. Our explosive plays have gone up so much this year. I still think we have to play complementary football.

We are getting the yards, very timely, but some of that is QB running on those 3rd downs, which count, but not a sexy run game

I heard Rohan talking about the offense on Sunday morning radio, and he said that the run game must come on if LSU is to run the table.

Right now the run game is being used as a complement to pass game, that's been pretty clear. We run on 3rd/2, 2nd/2, 2nd and goal from 2,3,4...etc...

We have a lot of "short yardage" carries.

TDP is a good example of this against NWST, the stats look pedestrian, 7 carries, 29 yards 2 TD. But 6 of his 7 carries went for a first down or TD, so that's 6 very successful carries. His other carry:

1st/10 from NWST 40 - run for 5 yards to NWST 35, good carry

TDP needs the ball a lot more, so does Emery. CEH is solid for who he is, but we got guys who will ultimately make more plays and are more gamebreakers than he is.

We rushed the ball 33 times against NWST, (take away 1 sacks and 1 knee). 12 went for first downs, 6 went for a TD.

So 18 out of 33 carries went for a 1st down or TD. That's 55%.

But going back to Emery/TDP vs. CEH, CEH just wont really break one, where as those guys could. I think that's why ultimately the run game gets better as they carry the ball more. 2nd and 1's from the 50 gaining 2-3 yards for a first down will ultimately turn into some 50 yard TD runs.

I don't think anyone is against "improvement" and we all want to see that. It just isn't the same thing as it used to be.

It doesn't have to look (or show up on the stat sheet) like it once did in order to be effective. Certainlt, I believe when the young guys get more touches, they will do better. I can be patient while watching this high flying, well oiled machine go crazy in the air

Our run game is to complement the passing game. Short yardage plays, draws, read option etc..

We are not trying to be a run first program anymore.

Those that are upset about the run game are very very ignorant and are not worth the time of day when trying to explain football.

The run game will only improve from here. People are seeing this new offense. Our pass threat is deadly. Should open up some run opportunities for us.

12.5 yards per pass ATTEMPT. That is strong!

(A little above the single season record of 11.6 - Kyler Murray)

I’m not upset about the running game. I just think there is a more explosive back on the sidelines that we need to move in that will take this offense to an even higher level.

If a more explosive back learns & executes ALL his assignments and makes all his reads - he'll get the PT.

Right now, CEH is the MAN.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Too many red-hot young RBs have no clue where the blitzes are coming from, or when and where to slide off for the easy checkdown reception, and 1st down.

I think this is a much bigger reason than people realize.

We run up tempo without no subing so much that we aren't going to just pop in TDP or Emery for a play here or there. Whoever is in there has to do EVERYTHING.

Run, catch, block.

Nothing but praise for CEH but the running game will have to improve if we want meet goals.

And CEH has been badass in the Red Zone. 4 TDs in 3 games.

Yup, against basically garbage defenses..... I liked what I saw from price sat night..... but when you start playing the Florida’s and other SEC comp you will need a better running game....
