Restaurant Recs for Venice Italy

Wife and I will be spending an adult only vacation in Venice Italy for 4 nights starting next week. I’m looking for restaurant recommendations or any other cool bars or cafes to visit. And of course any other great tips. Thoughts?

Wine/Beer/Liquor bar> They have a rooftop bar I visited several times but my favorite was by this dude who you never knew when he would open. Was over by the fish market but one day he opened from 11am to 6pm, another he opened at 8pm, and another he opened at 6. He spoke 0 English but was a character, kinda just worked when he wanted but he had the best beer selection and a great wine selection as well. Also, this restaurant that is right by there where they had delicious food and a guy who came out and sung around the tables in Italian. A little cheesy but still a nice experience.
Pub Da Aldo is the bar
Also, Bacaro Jazz bar, get your old lady to throw her bra on the ceiling

Only had one night but I ate at place called Trattoria Pontini and it was fantastic.

Best tip I can give from my experience in Italy in general is to wonder away from the parts that are obviously choked with tourists until you're at the point where everyone around you seems to be speaking Italian. The food will be far better and far cheaper. Learn some basic phrases for ordering food. Learning to say "per favore" and "grazie" will go a long way.

If you are looking to splurge, check out Club del Doge. Snag an outdoors seat for an amazing view.

If you want something different try La Zucca.
It's a vegetarian place with a focus on the pumpkin. I'm not a vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination but the meal was fantastic. Reservations only. Absolutely no walk-ins.

I have been there 3 times, most recently last year. Restaurants - The best one we went to last time was Alle Corone. It is in a hotel near the Rialto Bridge which is the sister hotel to the place we were staying ( Ai Cavalieri). We ate there on our last night which happened to be our anniversary. Osteria Alle Testiere is a tiny restaurant specializing in exotic seafood. Food is delicious. Reservations needed. At the next footbridge over is Ai Barbacani, a more casual seafood restaurant that was also very good. A few blocks away was L' Osteria di San Marino which was excellent. All of these places are a 10 minute walk from each other and were near our hotel. Another great seafood restaurant was Al Covo which was a little farther away. .........Bars - If the weather is nice, have drinks on the terrace at Hotel Bauer. It is right by the entrance to the Grand Canal across from La Salute Church. If the weather does not permit sitting outside, go to the lobby bar in Hotel Danieli near St. Mark's Square. Favorite bar on St. Mark's Square - The Florian.

I'm a pasta fanatic. Seafood pasta and squid ink pasta at Trattoria Bar Pontini was the best pasta I've ever had. (Tie with Trattoria Zaza in Florence)

Yeah, I remember people eating the squid pasta stuff and thinking wtf. Went back to the hotel and asked someone at the bar what it was

Up vote for Trattoria Zaza reference!

The cafeteria right off the bridge that leads to the outdoor market. Good, fast and inexpensive.

A Beccafico for eggplant Parmesan and lobster pasta.
Outside of this, I’ve been routinely disappointed by Venice restaurants. Be prepared- when a restaurant gets a good reputation in Venice, it is not uncommon for that restaurant to be sold to overseas (usually Chinese) owners. I’ve been to a restaurant in Milan like this, and it was actually amazing, but most go down significantly in quality.
Don’t overlook the possibility of going to a great market and keeping some cheese, meat, bread, and produce in the room. That stuff is great in Italy.
Also, Venice is REALLY busy- it can get exhausting. Take advantage of the Santa Lucia station and take a nice day trip. Depending on your interest, Verona, Milan, Lake Garda (my absolute favorite- the Rock Castle in Sirmione is unbelievable-see link below-and the food is good), Padua, and many other places are easily available.

We ate at the Allie Corone this summer. It was pretty good. Harry’s Bar was worth the stop as well. My favorite part of Venice was basically bar hopping around the market during the day time eating litttle sandwiches and such at different places. Our favorite restaurants were in and around Positano.

I second this- a lot of the “nicer” fine dining places bring in stuff from frozen because Venice has very few locals and tourists aren’t typically a rich source of repeat business (and most don’t know the quality difference). Little sandwiches in St. Marks square are a lovely way to pass lunch or or early evening. Some of the pizza places are quite good.

Another experience that we really enjoyed was a neighborhood best known as the Jewish Ghetto. There were two restaurants with the name El Timon. No reservations accepted at one (mostly a steak place) and the other is like a seafood only place. They were both pretty good. Best part of this is the neighborhood. It’s basicslly hudrends of local twenty somethings that flock the side of the canals and bridges. Early evening was like a giant outdoor street fair. Very casual, and we enjoyed that night quite a bit.

If you're still there, check out Trattoria Al Giardinetto. Awesome Seafood Risotto! Sorry, I couldn't remember the name of the place when you first asked. Found it while scrolling through photos. Anyway, if you're still there, check it out.

Realize the trip was a while ago, hope you had a good time! Saw the recommendation for Zucca down the thread. My wife and I saw it on Yelp, went there right when it opened at 7...no one at a table or waiting. Asked to be sat and waitress looked at us and said they have reservations at 9. I think she was worried we were going to be there that long. She spoke to owner and then we were sat. They have a totally different approach to dining and the restaurant business over there.
Oh, the food....it was great. I was going to recommend it myself. They do have some lamb/poultry dishes.

Check out Bacaro Jazz.
Wife and I had a good time there during our Venice trip.

Might want to check on what restaurants were affected by flooding as well.
