make all 18 wheelers stay in the right lane
This should be the law on ALL four lane highways as well as trucks overall a certain weight, axle/wheel count should have to run at a reduced speed.
This works, I've witnessed it first hand in Europe.
Trucks must travel the right lane at a speed slower than "car" traffic and only use the left if they are passing ... which isn't often, then immediately go back to the right lane.

Sounds good but actually causes more problems.
Ideally you want all traffic moving about the same speed. Having trucks mandated at 10 mph or however slower than passenger cars just mucks things up. Case in point, basin bridge.

It's like that on I-75 in Florida, and the Troopers there take it very serious...

Okay, what about when there are exits on both sides of the interstate? Or are trucks never allowed to get off??

Moving all tractor trailers to the right lane has been proven to be a mistake. It creates a wall that makes it near impossible for vehicles to exit. All traffic modelings show this. People also need to realize that the Interstates were built for the tractor trailers and the military - passenger vehicles were an afterthought. If anything they should ban passenger vehicles. State troopers will tell you that the vast majority of accidents are cause by passenger vehicles when a semi is involved. What lane they drive in makes little difference. Drivers are the problem of all vehicle types. Who knows what caused this wreck but trucks in the right lane is a feel good ignorant remark.

quote:Make the trucks stay in the right lane at ALL times...no trucks passing. Can't tell you how often I see trucks going 65 in the right lane, then one truck speeds up to 66 and cuts over to the left to pass a truck going 65 while almost taking off the front end of cars who were coming up behind him in the left lane at 75. That's the kind of stuff that keeps causing accidents on the interstate. Make it like the basin bridge. Trucks must stay in right lane at all times
