Texas game is no indication of what we really have on defense. It was a bad setup from the start. I think these guys are gonna get it together and become dominate as the year progresses. Too much talent not to.

If Lawrence, Logan, and Ika come back full strength, I am not worried at all about the defense.

Not even a little.

How? It was the best WR corps we'll see in the regular season this year except for Bama. If we play conservative again, our DBs will have their work cut out for them. There are plenty of things to improve on, including their attitudes.

it all starts with getting pressure on the qb. any team who lets the qb sit back there with all kinds of time is going to get picked apart

I'm worried about injuries...but it was a hot game, and they played phenomenally until the second half, when they were on the field for 2/3 of the half. That's a long time to be out there.

Not worried whatsoever. Our D will certainly prove to still be our strength. We returned 8 starters, and replaced studs with studs. We have 4 weeks to get healthy and get our depth experienced.

Not yet

If not for that wtf 3rd and 1 they would’ve been much fresher up front which in turn helps the DBs. Our backers do need to be a bit better in coverage but Daves got this.

We've never come out against a Florida or Bama with our defense not playing well. I think they'll be ready when it counts. we also don't have a test for a month. Vandy is good but we shouldn't have a problem with them.

The things I'm worried about is the depth in the secondary and the lbers playing against the pass.

There is some work to do in pass coverage. There were a few blown assignments (dropped TD for example) and our safeties let receivers get behind them. This will haunt us against Bama and possibly others. Aranda will cover it during film study and hopefully get it corrected.

I would say the issue is more with the LB'ers in coverage than our DB's, 3/4th's of our secondary is top notch.....just because they were successful in the passing game does not mean it's the DB's fault. D-line needs push to not allow QB time and the LBers have got to diagnose routes quicker and finish making the tackle. UT predominately beat us on short routes underneath and from the slot where we had either LBers or JS/KV in coverage.

All the shite talk, finger wags, & celebrations before they know if they are getting flagged or not. They need to clean up their game before bragging about it or else we'll continue to eat crow.

I just believe we can be a classier unit than that

moderately concerned. but I don't see a definitive personnel issue at any position. the talent is there. combo of heat, road game, first game against real competition and an all big 12 qb played a factor in what I hope was an aberration.
I feel like a kid on Christmas with the offense I saw on Saturday.
im cautiously optimistic and historically pessimistic.
I feel like someone is gonna pull the rug out fro under me.

I am not worried at this point, maybe a tad bit concerned. I think we fix most of our issues on D over the next few weeks

The Tx QB was great and had to be defended moreso as a runner. Linemen had to stay in their lanes but couldn't beat their O linemen with the bull rush. DA had to call some twist schemes to get pressure. No other QB on the schedule is as big of a threat as Ehlinger. This defensive line will play better over time but I expect to see more tempo form opponents. Much to improve on with the defense as a group.

Alabama is a good comp, given the talent level and offensive scheme. They gave up 18.1 ppg last year, and LSU is giving up 20.5.

If that holds up, that's about as good as we should expect it to get over the course of the season.

Geno Smith put up 400 plus on our D in 2011 so I am not worried at all. We know how good that D was in 2011 and i think this D can still be just as good. When playing a mobile QB who can run you have to stop either his scrambling ability or passing ability. We did not allow him to scramble which leads to big plays and busted coverage.

We are A OK!
