Lived in Uptown then less than a mile from where I live today. I too remember walking around during the eye, I was older than 4 so I feel pretty sure I remember correctly. Hey, who knows, it was interesting, blew the roof off the living room part of the house. Trees down everywhere, the smell of tree sap was like a neighborhood deodorizer.

My dad and I went out into the eye for about 10mins. The freakiest thing I’ve experienced !!!

From BR, second year at LSU. Driving around BR looking at damage the day after. Power out everywhere. Stopped by where a girl I had my eye on, was staying until her sorority house was completed. Asked her to have a beer with me. Went to the Bengal Lounge and had warm beer by candlelight.
Still together 54 years later.

I was 4 when the storm broke a large live oak limb off that took out our front porch in Mandeville. Don't remember much else.

My gramps has hella Betsy stories
I wouldn't be here if not for Betsy.
In Baton Rouge after the Hurricane passed through, my mom and her equally stupid and curious friends went driving around looking at damage. They rolled up on a La National Guard checkpoint to get into parts of Downtown BR.
My dad told them "go to hell and get outta there." Instead of being offended and taking off, they stuck around and flirted.
Here I am.

yep
one Circello descendant still has a route in Biloxi(PF cookies) his brother ironically works for Nabisco and part time for me. their Dad was our DM until he retired and got ill and passed.
Last Alphonso that had anything to do with PF passed several years back and was a depot manager for bread.
Most of us still use another Alphonso for our taxes
Good People!

My Brother was born in June I was 1 in April. My Mother tells of lying in bed with each of us under one of her arms while the small house we lived in in Thibodaux rocked and creaked. The neighbor fought his way over to tell my Dad the roof was blowing away but at that point there was nothing anyone could do. They have talked about Betsy in my family for 50 years.

I have no memory of it as my mother was two months pregnant with me but I’ve definitely heard the stories of my parents and four older siblings riding it out at home in Baton Rouge. Pretty sure I heard the term “huddled in the hallway”.
Most interesting tidbit came from my dad. He was a prominent local bowler who also managed Circle Bowl at the time. He got it closed up as the winds were really picking up and then drove home. He said he was fighting the winds all the way home just to keep the car on the road.
