Mono can last over a month. Your spleen gets enlarged and susceptible to rupturing from even mild trauma. So I’d say Gase is spot on.

There are definitely different levels of mono. I had it in high school and it wasn't really an issue. Doctor told me if I felt tired then shite down and rest. A friend had it in like 5th grade and he could barely leave the house for over a month.
*no, that friend did not give me mono.
