Two part question.
1) gator-tail vs Go-Devil
2) go with 25hp for access to restricted WMA's or say frick it and go with 40hp for everything else?
This topic prolly getting repeated over and over here but I'm bringing it up anyway cause why the hell not. Would love some input. Grateful for y'alls help as always.

If you never ran a Go Devil, you would be a hurting dude. They are work to run. Had a 25hp and that sucker would kick your arse. More so in skinny water.

Have a gator tail and love it. Reverse is really nice for launches and picking up decoys. It’s more practical for me for fishing as there were no birds in Delacroix last year. It’s nice not to have to worry about how much water or grass is in an area bc it doesn’t matter like it does for an outboard. You can just go where you want without the worry.

What size boat?
I personally love my 23 copperhead on 1542 alumacraft. Had a 36 Prodrive on a 17.5’ center console and it worked but it was such a heavy combo if/when you would get stuck. Sold it and bought my new setup for half the price.
It’s light, but I’m still able to haul myself and two other guys, decoys, and a pirogue and get 24 mph out of it. It’ll run 27.5-28 with myself and my deer hunting equipment.

I also have a 23hp Copperhead. I have no complaints after 5 years. I have it on a 16-48 Weldbilt flat.

Or, you could just get an outboard that will get you farther and faster to way more places to hunt ducks. The ole surface drive is out moded.

I keep hearing this every now and then and it's got me intrigued. Do you not have issues clogging up the outboard? How does it do in the mud and shallow water. Would be using it to hunt public in SE Louisiana and I'm not too familiar with the terrain.

Are you talking about a Go-Devil long tail or surface drive? I've heard the long tails will work you but I figured surface drive would be a different story.

Go devil surface drives are easy to handle once you get the trim set right for the boat. They are of a simple design and no frills, great for longevity and ease of use. The gator tail has more features but also more parts to give trouble. It’s all what you want.

That size boat, you would not like the smaller hp surface drives. The 40 from either manufacturer would be the best option. Just need to decide on what options you have to have.

on a boat that size, a outboard and a pirouge might be a better option.
also, make sure you read the rules on whatever wma or reserve you want to hunt. many butthurt people out there who can't afford one have banned surface drives on parts/all of some public hunting areas.

I’ve got an 18hp copperhead I’ll sell
Don’t do that type of hunting anymore

Sure, that's why they're banned

would 'bad parenting ' make you feel better?
back to the original topic, I believe it's about 14k for a boss hog and probly 18k or so for dual mudmotors.
i'd go duals before 1 big motor just for the reliability factor. they all break.

Wrong thread. This guy isn’t asking about the Boss 75. He’s asking about gator tail and go devil

I’ve had both on a 18x54. If you are putting the gtr on a Godevil boat, be prepared to add trim tabs in the back and raising the transom about an inch. I’ve seen the fnr’s run and they are a lot better than the old 35 I had. They have reverse and power trim now. If I had it to do all over again, I’d still stay with the gtrxd40. A lot quicker and I like it’s reverse a lot more. I’m actually waiting on a boat to be built by uncle j.
