Some fun quotes on the matchup from Surly Horns
quote:
I think we’re going in dry on these fricks. It’ll be the game where it’s clear to everyone we have an elite staff that can coach circles around equally talented teams.

You're right, we aren't right now. The problem with LSU fans is you think you are. You can't even beat Bama in the same conference you've been in for the last 20+ years. You would think at some point you would figure out how not to lose. Even aggy has beaten them. You're below aggy.
quote:
The notion that overnight they’ve turned into some offensive nightmare that’s going to torch teams in the air is laughable. We were built to frick up teams like this.

I would've been more worried about LSU last year. Y'all want to bring a spread passing offense into Austin, where every kid on our defense has been defending that since he was 14 and they see it at the highest levels in the Big 12, and you're new to it? Go right ahead.

For those of you with tickets, I'd advise you to start heading into the stadium at least 30 minutes before kickoff to make sure you can get to your seat in time. With the SEZ construction project, the stadium is lacking two large capacity entrances at gates 1 and 32 so there are big bottlenecks getting your tickets scanned.
I'll add though, that you can enter through any gate so don't just go to the first one you see if there's a huge crowd. You can probably find a shorter line somewhere if you keep walking around the stadium. But the gates along the north and west sides are going to be clusterfricks in general due to Bevo Blvd.

Thanks, for the info tlsu15! Headed down from Meechigan and looking forward to introducing the wife to Austin! Love that town.

Catching an Astros game in Houston on Thursday, then a Mark Knopfler concert the next night. Getting up early on Saturday for the ride to Austin. Tix to the game way overpriced, but I'm glad I bought in May.

There are, and people drive them like they are Hummers. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple injuries or deaths on those things next weekend. So if you’re driving down there be careful and alway wait a beat on green lights

I'd add a few things to the list...
Fonda San Miguel for old-school, interior mexican. It's an Austin classic & amazing meal every time. ATXCocina downtown is amazing. Fancy, but amazing. For something lower maintenance, try Trudy's or Maudies for Tex Mex. We like our breakfast tacos here. Veracruz, which was mentioned earlier, is bomb. Tacodeli and Torchy's are also both great as well for tacos.
We like our healthy options around here. 24 Diner downtown is great. I'm personally a fan of Honest Mary's as well. You can always do a chain like True Food Kitchen or Flower Child as well to have something healthy.
BBQ game has improved a ton over the last decade, and you can get some excellent food at Black's a little north of campus, or La Barbeque, Stiles Switch, Lambert's downtown... there are a bunch of options which are miles ahead of anything you'd get in Louisiana. Get the beef rib if you are hungry.
I would not do Salt Lick unless you want the experience of being 30 mins outside of the city.
Austin is relatively safe compared to Baton Rouge (homeless ordinance notwithstanding), and traffic post-game flows better because the roads are mostly in a grid. I have walked from downtown to campus in the past -- younger, fit people should be able to do that.
You can pretty much walk anywhere for 2 miles in any direction and not be in danger. One caveat -- just avoid 7th & Red River/Neches/Trinity b/c that's where the homeless shelter is. It's called the ARCH. Stay away.

Good call on 7th street. If you get drunk on 6th, don’t wander over there. A lot of homeless/mentally ill congregate in that area and it can be a bad time if you get caught there without expecting it.
Specifically 7th and Neches- the corner mentioned above.

Lockhart is the old guard so to speak but none of the bbq places there are considered the best anymore... Snows is the current champ but only open Saturday morning 8am if you want to try before game(lexington,tx) about an hour from austin.
Or try places in austin that are better than lockhart joint like OP shared

Bluebonnet Golf Course is a great option. It’s less than $50 on weekends and they enforce a 4 hour pace of play. It’s our go-to course when we know we have a tight schedule.
The other recommendations on this thread are strong as well but a little more pricey. The muni courses are slow on weekends so plan accordingly.
If you don’t have a tee time yet you need to get one quickly as all of the courses tend to fill up.
All that said, we’re playing at Avery Ranch at 8:00 so if there and see the purple and gold, say hello!
Geaux Tigers!

Anyone have info on the band? (If they are marching down a street playing pregame, warming up anywhere, etc.)

You guys and gals just have some fun and be safe. Eat some great food, check out all the sites and just remember to come back again in the future.
Man is this going to be a huge game, Oklahoma? F'ck there ain't no Oklahoma on this schedule.. It is all LSU for do or die.

You can’t walk around downtown with alcohol. You’ll be fine at the designated tailgate areas around the stadium on Saturday though.

the only thing i know about the band for this game is that they are bringing 110 - i would imagine they have to march through "Smoky's Midway" to get to the north end zone
