Pygmalion has a solid post here based on fact in which Obama actually did a credible job based on the recession hand and unfounded Iraqi war that he inherited. Also, Clinton created a surplus during his tenure. I am not a Democrat, instead a registered independent, liberal on some issues and conservative on others. My view is that we are allowing Trump to jack the deficit to unprecedented levels which is similar to how he has leveraged some of his own businesses with debt. Filing for bankruptcy and walking away from hundreds of millions of loans like Trump did with his casino and other bad business decisions is not an option for the US Government.

No he didn't. We cannot pay our future bills with 1.5%-1.8% growth. It's math. We cannot stay there (at 1.5%). Obama was strangling the economy with confiscatory taxes and regulation.

Obama was lucky that the FED held the discount rate at basically "zero" his entire term. Then added rounds of quantitative easing. Without the extraordinary FED stimulus, his entire 8 years would have really sucked arse.

No, the Republican Congress led by Newt Gingrich was responsible for most of what led to the surplus. Clinton was brought along kicking and screaming.
