Titleist AVX and Tour Soft Balls

Has anyone tried these? Currently use Pro v1 or Chrome Soft. Looking for more distance without compromising feel around the greens.

Srixon Q Star Tour is what I switched to from ProV1x and not looking back.

Recently tried the Tour Soft, they're not bad. But even with the recent $5 price drop, I'd still rather pay the extra $10 and just buy last year's Pro V model

IMO, the AVX is the best ball Titelist puts out. It's basically a ProV1 with less spin. I hit a high ball so this fits my game perfect.

I like them both.
I’m 55 with club head speed between 90 and 95.

Read the MyGolfSpy.com golf ball review before you switch from Pro-V1 to AVX or any of the “soft” golf balls.
Soft=Slow. Completely disregard what “Feels good”

If you want more distance, the Snell MTB-X was the longest ball in the test, but the Pro V-1 and Pro v-1X were among the balls rated “Excellent” performers. The AVX was rated in the “Fair” (just above poor) performers

I have always trusted these guys, but they said the Callaway chrome soft is garbage and I don’t know why. If I’m losing distance with it, I don’t want to hit a better ball. I would be in jail with more distance.

I don't disagree with their conclusions, but I play the Wilson Duo Professional ball, a low compression 3 price urethane. I've tried the MTB-X, the Z-Star, and a few others. The Duo Pro consistently is longer for me.

I think individual swings can create exceptions to the rule. I have a friend who gets the ball in the hole pretty well, but he has a big over-the-top move in his swing that creates a lot of side spin especially with the driver and long irons. The AVX helped him because it goes straighter for him. Because it’s flying straighter, his net distance (relative to what he has left to the hole) is less. Now, if he’d fix his swing to get on plane then his results head to head would be better with the MTBX or Prov1
MyGolfSpy even says to find a ball and stick with it... there are huge differences in distance, trajectory and spin rates between balls, so if you’re switching, you’re gonna have trouble being consistent

I am currently playing the Taylormade TP5 ball, not completely sold on it yet. Golf Galaxy is selling 2 boxes for 80.00...
But I agree, the Srixon Q Star Tour is unbelievable at the price point (27.00)
AVX and ProV1 have become silly as far as pricing.

For me, AXV is slightly shorter off driver, but is the longest ball off irons I've ever hit. So long it caused problems because I never believe I can actually hit irons that far. Can't comment on the other as I will not play anything but Urethane.

Taylormade project A is long and feels good around the greens. And is cheap

Actually tried the AVX,Tour Soft and Q Star Tour today. Will use the AVX again, especially on windy days, but not an everday ball for me. Even par on 3 holes while using AVX
Used the Tour Soft on one hole, it was okay but not for me.
Will definitely switch to the Q Star and use regularly. I liked the distance and feel around the greens.
Shot 74 at The Bridges, which is 4 under my handicap.
Thanks for the suggestions.

When I am crushing the driver, I play the Pro V1. When it just isn't going right. Bring out the Tour Soft and the ball flies well, lands soft and rolls well. Not a fan of the yellow ball as I gets scuffed up pretty easy.

Chappy... as a fellow Chrome Soft fanatic, this has made me seriously question Callaway.
This is a Chrome Soft fwiw.
Will be trying out Snell MTB-X here shortly.
As far as soft being slow, they did that test with a robot who put the exact same swing on each shot. That robot didnt vary at all which most golfers tend to do in a round. If you're playing a ball that you cant compress like a robot can, then the soft=slow shtick doesn't apply to you. Play what fits your game. Who gives a rats arse if you sacrifice a yard or two of distance.

4. DON’T WORRY ABOUT COMPRESSING THE GOLF BALL
Let’s tackle one of the most common golf ball myths. Forget what you might have heard, you swing fast enough to compress the core of the golf ball.
Our testing showed that golf balls do not perform differently at different swing speeds – at least not to any significant degree. Balls that are fast at 115 MPH are fast at 85 MPH. The bottom line is that a short ball doesn’t become a long ball when swing speed decreases.
Launch and spin relationships don’t change much either. While there can be exceptions, a ball that’s low spin off the driver, is often low spin off a wedge. Speed doesn’t change that relationship either.

I like the Srixon Z Star. Every Spring at the beginning of the season they offer a big sale on the Z star at $20 a dozen (normally $40+) so I load up on them and buy 8 boxes or so and hope that lasts me until next year.

OP, check out the MTB-X. Can get them 27 a dz if you buy 5 boxes. Comparable to the ProV line

Tour soft is pretty good. I had a dozen and finally used one, it seems to go a little farther for me with my slow swing speed. Around the green it did fine.

I like them as well as prov or vx1
