Did anyone else experience a power surge or any other type of electrical problem in South Baton Rouge yesterday?

My son called me yesterday when he got home from school and said that the smoke alarms were going off in my house but there was no sign or smell of smoke. Also, cable, wifi, and telephone all through Cox was not working. The modem works for my internet but the wireless router does not work and wont come on. Both were plugged into the same power strip. Also, I have a leather sofa and love seat set with power recliners and neither power recliner will work. Also my sons PlayStation won't turn on. Some things were hooked up to a surge protector and other items were not. In addition, I have a brand new TV that is just plugged into the wall with no surge protection because the plug is directly behind where the TV is hanging that did not get affected. No lights were blinking on the microwave or stove to indicate that we lost power at some point.

I know that there was some pretty bad weather yesterday and I am thinking that there was some kind of power surge or lightning strike close to my house.

I live near the Burbank soccer complex. Did anyone hear of or experience a similar issue yesterday?

Did he say something negative publicly about the Clinton’s? I did yesterday and as soon as I hit “submit” my power went out. I immediately regretted my decision

It may have been leftovers from that MP3 attack that someone’s wife was talking about when their internet went out this past weekend.

Look Gump, I asked a legitimate question trying to figure out what happened at my house while we were gone yesterday that will likely cost me a couple of thousand dollars in replacement and repairs.

You had an abnormal "power surge" in the middle of a heavy thunderstorm. This isn't hard to figure out

EMP test. Get MREs, water, ammo and a 1978 Land Cruiser.

I did. None were tripped. We did have a GCFI outlet in the kitchen and one in the bathroom that reset.

Well how did some appliances get zapped and others did not. I am perplexed at how things that were plugged into a Belkin surge protector were destroyed but other appliances plugged directly into the wall were not affected.

Yes. I'm in South BR and my back porch light flickered at some point yesterday but nothing else.

I can't answer that question for you. Surge protectors are mostly useless for massive surges like a lightning strike in my experience

I'd grab a multimeter and just check the outlets to be safe. The outlets may be wasted.

Lightning strike
It hit my house two weeks ago
Came through chimney, sparked at bottom, blew out my TV and AC
