Unless you are missing a foot you should be able to walk it in that time

Google is telling me that a 'fast walking pace' is 45 minutes. You guys are trying to give me false confidence.

You can't fast walk 5 kilometers in 29 minutes. Anybody who is saying that in this thread is full of shite.

Yeah, a fast (non-competitive) walking pace is 15:00/mi.

Some of these chuckleheads haven't been off their sofa in 20 years.

Then, you've got the "professional" runners telling you that a sub 7:00 mi is easy.

Truth lies somewhere in the middle, which is where you'll laying with her if you can pull this off.

So here’s the thing, and others have alluded to this already, but a 29 minute 5k, while not spectacular, is an above average 5k time. And since the majority of people don’t run ever, it’s a really good time compared to the average adult.

I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the “it’s just a 10 minute mile crowd”, because while that’s true for people who run regularly, you’re probably not going to go out and run three of those back-to-back.

For a reference, I ran my first 5k when I was 31. I hadn’t been very active at all for the previous 7 or 8 years except for about a month or two of casual running on the treadmill prior to the race. I ran a 28:39, and I felt like absolute death for about two days after.

Like others have said, try to keep pace with her if you can. She’ll probably pull away from you eventually, especially if there’s any elevation but just keep running and finish. Then tell her the truth afterwards. She’ll respect you for it and you’ll feel better about the whole thing.

Happy running
