VPN help with Plex and stuff

I need help. I just got NordVPN and don't know when and where to turn it on. I download from IPT and use Plex. However, when I use it, it does weird things with my internet. My shared users for plex can't see the server and my internet drops dramatically (400Mbps WIFI to about 40Mbps). I can't use it while watching Amazon Prime Video.
I also get funny looking downloads from Bittorrent and it is saying I need to torrent these files even though they are. I have 16 needing torrenting and that's exactly how many I did when I started. What do I do for these?
What all do I need to do to properly use this? What programs do I need it to run with and what all are the quirks around it? TIA

Pick the server, from the same country, nearest to your location, with the lowest ping.
*Edit: play with the settings too, get to know the software.

A VPN will be much slower than your ISP speed. If your Plex server is behind a VPN, then shared users won't be able to find it since they are looking for the IP address you set them up to look for originally. I believe you can get around this by setting the VPN up in your router rather than using the vpn app on the server. But installing the vpn on your router is a bit more complex.

This is where pfsense comes in handy

I dunno what that is.
I might switch to Private Internet Access as I think they are higher rated for torrenting.

Someone want to explain to me how the hell cox knows that I am downloading torrents behind a vpn. I made sure I was connected to the VPN before starting the torrent download. Next day, internet shut off, reason was because of that specific torrent I downloaded.

You can't run your server behind a VPN.

Everybody is so worried about the data Google has, but I wish everyone would wake the hell up and realize how much their isp spies on them.

Most likely, Cox would not require you to use their DNS to access their services. I’d recommend writing down the existing DNS servers and trying one of the others; if you have trouble, you can always change the settings back.
