I know it sounds like you're done, but for future reference, the easiest way to save grips for the average person is a hypodermic needle.
Go to Walgreens wearing nicer clothes (i.e. don't look like a meth head), bring the grip with you, and explain to the pharmacist why you want the needle. The smaller the needle, the better, but really anything works. They may ask you some questions to make sure you aren't an addict, but I've never had that big of a problem getting one.
Once you have the needle, fill it with gas. Make sure the needle spout is pointing up away from the shaft and insert it into the grip about 3/4 of the way to the top. You want the needle to go into the grip, hit the shaft and start sliding down the shaft. So your angle is very shallow, almost along the angle of the shaft. Then squirt the gas into the grip. This typically breaks the seal, and you can start twisting the grip to get it loose. Some grips that are older will take a couple shots to get off. some will come off with one shot. Depends on how long it's been there and how much tape/glue was used.
Once you finish, put the needled back in the wrapper with the cover and put it in the garage. You may need it later and it can be used multiple times.
I do this mostly with putter grips, but I've done it with iron and driver grips as well. Sometimes the grip is baggier the second time you use it, but there isn't any way to pull them off and them not be.
Hope that helps in future endeavors.

If you have a "Tractor Supply" store near you, they sell the needles and syringes. It's easier and cheaper than going to the Pharmacy.
