Mitch McConnell: ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban ‘Front and Center’ in Senate

"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) indicated an “assault weapons” ban and other gun controls would be “front and center” when the Senate reconvenes in September.
The Courier-Journal reports that McConnell was a guest on the Louisville, KY, Terry Meiners Show where he said, “What we can’t do is fail to pass something,” adding, “The urgency of this is not lost on any of us.”
NPR reports that McConnell addressed an “assault weapons” ban, saying: “We had that ban for about a 10-year period. There’s a good deal of dispute about whether it actually had an impact or not. It’s certainly one of the front and center issues. I think … probably background checks and red flags will probably lead the discussion. But a lot of other things will come up as well.”
McConnell also stressed background checks would be taken up by the Senate.
On August 7, 2019, Breitbart News reported that President Donald Trump pushed for Congressional action for background checks. The Associated Press quoted Trump saying, “There’s a great appetite, and I mean a very strong appetite, for background checks. And I think we can bring up background checks like we’ve never had before.”
The U.S. has had background checks on retail gun sales since 1998."
We armed patriots are going to have some very difficult decisions to make in the near future.

Say no to gun control. Do not give them one inch

Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited. From Blackstone through the 19th-century cases, commentators and courts routinely explained that the right was not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose

I agree. No way am I turning anything in.
The reality is that we are going to have to pull up stakes and move to gun friendly states where local authorities are going to turn a blind eye to national GOP initiatives and we are going to have to band together to form militias.

The "other things" will result in no legislation making it to Trump's desk.

Background checks are good, red flag law scares me a little bit but I think it's good in theory. An "assault weapon" ban is fricking stupid.

Who gets to decide who is "red flagged"?

That's why I said it scares me, it's good in theory but there is alot that can go wrong with it.

We have the right to carry the equivalent of what our military carries, cause the second Amendment is the people’s counter to our own Government for protection of it’s over-reach.

Right. The second amendment is already currently limited. We don't need any more restrictions because those will inevitably be deemed inadequate and there will be calls for more "reasonable restrictions". This isn't a short game.

He's merely saying it would be an issue that is considered.

As I have already pointed out
"Common sense" gun control is DESIGNED to fail. It's supposed to fail. That way, when the measures go into place, and mass shootings STILL happen, the anti gun crowd can run to the cameras and say "Well, we tried X Y and Z and we are still having these mass shooting problems, it leaves us no choice but to take more extreme measures"
They just know they can not politically support more extreme measures until the less extreme ones have shown that they do not work.

Has any politician defined "Assault Weapon" yet?

It's to protect state sovereignty

Doing nothing is the absolute worst position. Stay home if you want, but something needs to be done.

Another Trumpism. WTH does that even mean?
