My best buddy at work is a good dude. One of the best fishermen I have ever known. He's got a standing invation for us on his boat. Well, he really like my little boy and helped him catch his first fish several years ago when he was 3 or 4. He even calls his the 1st mate on his boat (My boy has driven the boat, I have not .) Unfortunately, he's had some health (back) problems, and has come to the realization that he limited in the fishing he can now do.
Well, they've been doing a remodel at his house and he has been cleaning out a bunch of stuff. This includes streamlining a bunch of his tackle. He always says, "I have a enough stuff at home, I could open up my own cabelas." He told me the other day, "I have a box for your son." Not that much, but enough to get him started in the gear world.
Well he brought it to work yesterday and it was awesome. I gave it to the kid last night and he was stoked. We're mostly fly fishers at our house, but I'm not opposed to any technique that will bring fish to hand.
He'll never see it, but this thread is to say, "Thanks Buddy, you're awesome!!"

Passing the passion on to a youngster is awesome.

That's awesome. That is one of my favorite thing in sports of any type is seeing someone take an interest in a young one and help open that world to them.

He's got a couple of older (grown) kids, but neither has taken a real shine to the outdoors.

I'm looking at that box and wondering if I can be his buddy, too.
Must be a terrific guy to help you son like this.

One of the best. Would give you the shirt off his back.
I'm sure you folks have ones like him too.

Looks like a good haul with some real classics. Bottom right, if I am not mistaken, is a Mepps Comet. In my personal experience those things are great at generating strikes but I play hell keeping the fish on.

Good eye. It's a #3. After looking thru the box, my comment was "Uncle Mike (We call him uncle even though there is no blood relation) fishes for bigger fish than we do."
