Arsenal are letting go 55 staff members who are "redundant". Reports that players are pissed since they took a pay cut, which was supposed to ensure staff members retained their jobs. KSE came out and basically said they needed to let those people go so that they could make moves in the window.
Just a bad look overall.
Arseblog had a good response to KSE's "sustainable and responsible way":
quote:A lot of scouts are the staff who are being let go, with the focus now shifting to recruiting players through agents and the academy. One scout, who has been there for 20 years, found Fabregas, Bellerin, and Martinelli.
It is now clear that we must reduce our costs further to ensure we are operating in a sustainable and responsible way, and to enable us to continue to invest in the team.
Just a bad look overall.

Operating in a ‘sustainable and responsible’ way sounds quite reasonable, doesn’t it? Who could argue with such an outlook? Yet it doesn’t tally with the way we’ve been operating in recent times. Is, for example, spending close to £5m to sign an injured player on loan before signing him for free a few months later ‘sustainable and responsible’? Is it sustainable and responsible’ when your Head of Football and a former colleague at another club require the intervention of a highly paid super-agent to complete a transfer in which said agent represented neither club nor the player in question? Is it ‘sustainable and responsible’ to pay over £20m for the services of a veteran player for one year? And for those who choose to believe the denials of certain agents, I have some magic beans for sale, just drop me an email.

I dont care about the layoffs in general, It's business. But the whole take pay cuts so we dont have layoffs then you lay people off is pretty shitty.
I know Andrew doesnt like the agent thing, but Arsene Wenger fricked up recruiting so badly because he refused to go through these agents, or certain agents. I mean we balked at signing Luis fricking Suarez over shite like this. And look at where we are now. Celebrating us getting into the Europa league like we are Everton.

We absolutely win the league the year Leicester did with Suarez instead of Giroud as the main striker.

Yeah and of course it was a sense of pride of doing things the right way, but have we really? Most of us hate Chelsea but they are a better run club than us.

True. I see people worried about Arsenal always seeming to do business with Raul and Edu's buddy Kia Joorabchian, who also happens to be Willian's agent.
If this is the way the club wants to go, I'm all for it, but they just have egg on their face from saying the players taking a pay cut would save these people their job and then they fire them 3 days after the FA Cup win.

I see it from the perspective that the club tried everything they could to keep these employees in a job before finally having to cut ties rather than them pulling a fast one on them.
Back in April when the club announced that Arteta and the players willingly took a 12.5% cut, they didn’t know the longevity with which this would last. At that time they likely thought they’d be able to recover normal revenues by the beginning of the 20-21 season and now that’s not happening.
Arsenal also promised the players and coaches that they’d repay the 12.5% if the club were to meet specific targets. It could be that the FA Cup win forced Arsenal to have to pay out additional $$$ to the group.
There’s a lot that we probably don’t know about.

Some clarity on the scouts being let go.

The changes within Arsenal's recruitment network - including the departure of Francis Cagigao - have come after a major review carried out by Edu. They are not linked to the 55 proposed redundancies.

Edu wants Arsenal to move to a more data & analytics-driven approach which has proved so successful for the likes of Liverpool & Man City, away from the old fashioned system of having scouts specialising in different locations around the world. [Standard]

Gabriel not in the Lille squad and his number has been given to a youth player. It's happening, lads.

That's good about the cb.
More on the scouts thing, I'm pretty sure Cagigao was already going to leave but was retained only when Sven left. So if Sven had stayed, some of those scouts would have been out.

Arsenal prospect Trae Coyle set to join Zech Medley on loan at Gillingham. He had a very encouraging 2019/20 with the U23s and was regularly training with Mikel Arteta's squad by end of the season.
