Coach Brady

Y’all think Coach Brady will coach in the box or on the field? I feel he is more a “on the field” kinda guy. With that being said, how much of the offense will he control under Ensminger?

He’ll call the basketball games from the sideline with Chris Blair IMO.

O has said he will be in the box beside E. We will see if anything changes. But, that is the plan
Posted on 8/5/19 at 11:09 am to tigerfan1985
He’ll be in the box and “have the next play ready for E”.

He will be in the box according to O, but depending on how things go, wouldn’t surprise me to see it change.
He’s being groomed to call plays from the box as OC

If he is to be involved in in game play calling he will have to be up in the box

If he is going to be involved in game day play calling... well... that's for another thread.

Obviously he will be involved in play calling if he has the next play ready.

That’s my point. What are his qualifications for calling plays at a program like LSU this season?
Posted on 8/5/19 at 11:49 pm to Damone
Please tell me you are kidding.
You think the only way someone should ever get a position at a school of LSU’s calibre is it they have already been at a school of LSU’s calibre? How the heck are coaches supposed to move up in prestige then?

No I’m not kidding. I don’t think that the best OC/offensive specialist candidate LSU could get was a guy who is two years removed from being a GA at Penn State, who was a generic offensive assistant for the Saints for two years, and has never called a game in his life. LSU isn’t a learn on the job gig.
Start at a lower tier school and work their way up? Like most coaches.

He means start at a lower tiered school as OC and prove he can call plays. Brady hasn't don't that whatsoever.
I hope he is incredible, but the excitement of his abilities aren't really based around his resume. Its umm....lacking

I would assume he will continue to do the radio play by play for the Tigers?

I mean it depends on what you are looking for. In terms of resume he has varied experiences in multiple situations in which his employer at the time recommended him in each scenario, and he has knowledge of the style of offense we are trying to implement. Anyone who Sean Payton says has a great offensive mind I trust. I understand that he has never been an OC, but I think that’s why this PGC gig will be so good for him. He has an experienced, if nothing else, play caller in Ensminger that he is feeding these plays, and when Ensminger feels like he is choosing the wrong plays, they can just do a different one. I am infinitely less worried about his experience as a play caller when he has basically a filter to go through at all times.

Yep. The way that this is theoretically going to work is that Brady will always have a next play ready for Ensminger. Ensminger can then call that play or choose a different one. So, Ensminger is ultimately responsible for the play call, but this gives Brady a chance to get the experience he needs to hopefully call plays in the future.
I think that everyone sees this as a tryout year for Brady as OC. If it works, then I think that Ensminger retires from coaching to be an analyst for us, so that he can still help Brady.

Again: how is this a good idea? Everyone in the country knows that LSU is stacked with talent, has an incredible defense year in and year out, but simply cannot field a competent offense.
With those facts, who in their right mind would sign up for an inexperienced GA learning on the job from E for two years (one of which is supposed to be poised for a title run - 2019)? Many people are wondering why a qualified and experienced OC with skins on the wall wasn’t hired once Canada was fired. E has shown no ability to have success as an OC and now he is being tasked with training his inexperienced replacement on the job? I mean, maybe it will work out, but on paper that looks terrible.

Just a thought on that.. I think that a smart person like Brady can learn from another smart person like Sean Payton without doing the job exactly. A lot or people are hired for jobs they have never done but may be qualified just by there training.
I do agree with damone though, we should slow down with anointing this guy as our Savior.
And he was in the box for the spring game, so maybe he will do that again, not positive.

This is great in theory, but they would still need to make quick decisions on that play. Wouldn't be surprised if we had some initial problems getting plays in.
