You should have been done with google a long time ago. Use DuckDuckGo.

It's truly incredible.
Try searching "Is America really so racist?" in google and duckduckgo and compare the results you get.

DuckDuckGo is the way to go.

I obviously still use google for some stuff, but have been using DDG and love the brief freedom
Wish it had a voice search widget

tigerdroppings introduced me to startpage.com. I've made it my search engine.

Flats is correct-
I've just recently switched over to DDG and have been very impressed with the results. Google blatantly manipulates search results.
For example, on Google, if I type in "obama lifts weights like a girl" I will get back 1000 images of jug ears looking cool doing a layup and maybe if I am lucky I will get the still photo of him in the weight room. On DDG, it was the first result.
I am using it (I guess) as a Chrome plug-in, so I am still wary about that, but you can also get it for Explorer and I imagine Firefox.

This reminded me of how frustrating it is on Google to try to search for non-image content and having to go through 3 pages of MSNBC, CNN, Huffpo, Vox, NBC, ABC, Wapo, NYT, Hollywood Reporter, etc., etc, etc, before coming across anything that looks remotely objective. FoxNews sometimes makes it on the first page, but often on the second. Breitbart will be on page 6.

How do you think search engines would work without manipulating results?

By open sourcing their production code and never doing anything behind the scenes to put their thumb on a particular result. Not very hard actually.

How can I set DDG to my default search engine so when I search in the address bar of my iPhone, DDG is used to search instead of Google?

Wow just followed your instructions. Google pulls up 20 links of "Trump is the biggest racist ever seen across the universe". Duck duck go just gives you links that actually answer the question with facts. Sad

Use Opera as a browser. I’m not sure about plug-Ins but Safari has more and more problems and I’m not about to use Chrome.

Settings/Safari/Search engine. DDG is one of the choices.

What is the best alternative to YouTube? Invidio? Are there others?

Simply go to settings, in whatever device, and choose your search engine preference.
Pretty sure all devices must offer that option by law. I know all of my android and apple devices do.
You can also pull a DDG widget to your homescreen from your widget tray.
I use a Brave browser that defaults to DuckDuckGo on all of my mobile devices.
