I am a big fan of LSU sports. I also graduated with 2 degrees from LSU. While I agree it is best to generate funds for the academic institution from other avenues, what if that is not possible? Is the solution to continue to increase tuition? Lay off faculty? Close certain colleges? This will only reduce enrollment and make our degrees less valuable.
And what will become of the excess money generated by LSU athletics? I am a fan of upgrades to facilities to attract recruits as much as anyone but we just finished this. Perhaps it could be spent on upgrading the Maravich Assemby Center if not to be given for academics.
Say good bye to argument to non-fans that LSU Athletics helps the academic side. LSU Athletics helps only LSU Athletics as of now.

That’s not true and that’s not what he said. He said that LSU Athletics does not have a moral obligation to help the University and that is not the responsibility of the Athletic department. He is correct. He also left the door open for potential donations to be made, but the guaranteed money to the University for them to do whatever they like with it is over. They have mismanaged funds time and time again.

You have 2 degrees and that was your interpretation of what he said?

That is absolutely not at all what this says. It says LSU athletics isn’t writing a one time check to the academic side. They will help out in case by case projects. It’s accountability in knowing what your money is actually going to. LSU Athletics will always support the Academic side and that will never change.

You posted a bunch on nonsense. But I'll take a stab at this. The athletic department could suck, and no funds could be coming from them. That's the other option.
Feel free to put any money you spend because of athletics into the academic side. Have season tickets? Don't renew, give that money to the uni instead of taff.
Take trips to the games? Stop going, use that money you would have spent on bringing the family to br and donate it to academics.
And this goes for any one that bitches about this. Put up or shut up. You have a choice of where your money goes.
