You have to pay him in 2019, and give him an unrealistic extension for 2020 and then make a trade with NYG for their Center or an OT.

We can pick up another great WR next year (maybe not as good as Thomas, but still good enough for Drew to elevate statistically and work well in Payton’s offense).

This year, however, we can’t just replace Thomas. We are too late in the game to look at other options.
Kudos to MT13 and his people for holding the SAINTS organization hostage.

Please list all the NFL teams that have won the super bowl with the highest paid WR in the NFL. Thanks

Name a receiver that has done as well without Brees? I’m not saying MT shouldn’t get paid, I’m saying Brees makes decent receivers looks great and good receivers All Pro. Brees would figure it out without MT.

You can't trade that type of contract 1 year in. I think OBJ had a $20M signing bonus. If we give MT anything close to that we'd be looking at a $16M cap hit in 2020 when he won't even be on the team.

Also, we may actually have some solid depth at the center position w Easton & McCoy; plus they can both play guard

I don't think it would be near that bad.
MT doesn't throw the passes to himself.

Might be worse than 7-9. Our schedule is brutal and our other receivers are pretty bad.

Do you honestly think Brees is coming back next year??? He’s done after this year IMO

if you're telling me he is directly responsible for 6 extra wins you are an idiot. Contracts are getting ridiculous. Freaking 20 million for any receiver is insane.

Thomas isnt that great. Not a top 10 receiver without Brees and Payton.

Saints signing Michael Thomas has more to do with "life after Brees" than it does this season with him. Answer is, yes, Brees would find a way to win without Thomas. The key question you have to ask is how well do you think the Saints do without Thomas AND an unknown at QB?

Man sometimes you guys really throw me for a loop.

I feel like as saints fans, a lot of us imagined pairing Drew with a top flight All Pro wide receiver. Now that the Saints have one, and have had a ton of success with him as a key piece, we don’t want to acknowledge his importance?

Drew and MT elevate eachother. It’s not one way or the other. They both make eachother better. Just listen to the way Drew and Sean Payton talk about him. He works harder than anyone on the team in the offseason. He goes 110% in practice and it translates to him being all pro. On top of all that, he loves this team, and he loves New Orleans. It’s a perfect fit.

Sometimes it’s not all about the production, although MT certainly is productive.
Sean Payton talks about the “right 53” all the time, and bringing in the “right guys” that are smart, hardworking, people of character and integrity.

How could anyone possibly think that not having MT on the team isn’t anything but a tremendous loss???
Combine all of that with the fact that a year or two from now, 20 million is going to look like a solid deal for Michael Thomas, as the cap keeps going up and other receivers get new deals worth more.

jimmy graham thought he was gods gift and the best there was in the NFL as well

brees made him what he was and he wasnt much to speak of after he left

brees also made MT as great as he is. sure he is talented and will do great wherever he goes, but his odds of going to pro bowls without brees throwing it to him are very low

The OP is one ignorant MOFO. MT is a great WR, but Drew will fund receivers and move the ball.
