Per Rob Demovsky:
Uhh, this would be wild

Theo Riddick, a surprising cut by the Lions, will make his first visit to the Saints, according to a source.

He would be a great compliment to Kamara. A fricking no-brainer

Really good pass catcher, and another Notre Dame player, sounds perfect.

Riddick would be a perfect fit, one of the best pass catching RBs in the league.
Last 5 seasons receptions: 34, 80, 53, 53, 61. Those first 2 seasons were under Joe Lombardi as OC.
The saints are at their best offensively when we have 2 receiving RBs- Reggie and Pierre then Pierre and Sproles
Riddicks 247 catches leads all RBs the last 4 years.

In the article on ESPN they say New Orleans is not just his first visit, it’s his first choice

If he came here, he'd essentially be a slot WR I reckon. Still would fill a need. Get him in now and let him get that route tree down.
eta
RB Theo Riddick has earned the fourth-highest receivinng grade by a RB from the slot since 2015, 81.5. Behind AK, David Johnson, and Duke Johnson
6th in # of routes ran from the slot by a RB last season
A 114.7 passer rating when targeted in the slot (2nd among RBs)
Has forced 8 missed tackles after the catch from the slot (2nd among RBs)
At the same time, Buck Allen is pretty adept at catching the ball out of the backfield and can actually tote the rock as well

Exactly gyno. Whatever role he fills, we’d be adding another dangerous pass catcher.

Do we have room for a niche RB that can’t run inside very well?

As someone posted "a perfect fit".
This will get done.

I just watched his highlights of the last two years.
He can play.

I think yes. As gyno said, he’d essentially be a slot receiver.
And are we 100% sure he can’t run the ball? The lions are notoriously awful at running the ball, they averaged 29th in the nfl the 5 years Riddick has been in the league. Not completely relevant, but the one season at Notre Dame he got significant carries, he averaged 4.8 yards per rush.

If we want to carry a 4th RB he’d be a good choice.
Kamara, Murray = traditional Lightning, Thunder
Allen = inside runner/pass catcher
Riddick = pass catcher/outside runner

I like it. Looks like an upgraded group on paper compared to the four RBs on the Week 1 roster last season:
AK, Ingram, Boston Scott, Mike Gillislee

I do like Buck Allen but he doesn’t have the same track record

To answer all, I was pretty sure prior to the draft it was projected we only had like 7 available adds to the current roster and why I bring up room on the roster. If we are not happy with current depth outside Murray I can see it.
Do we normally keep 4 RB’s on the depth chart? I thought it was 3.

I’ve always thought he would be great in this offense. Hope he still has gas left in the tank

Usually 3. But if Riddick is used more as a slot, you might see a WR sat, or a 3rd TE.

This is interesting.
Theo Riddick has lined up in the slot 18 times since Golden Tate's departure, that leads all running backs since Week 9

It would be huge if we could land him
