The last few times it took forever to power up. Purchased it from tigerdirect about 4-5 years ago, do it was time. It had 1tb but a shitty processor.
So questions:
1. What processor should I look for or avoid?
2. Easy way to get pics etc off the old computer? at one time I was using a external hard drive. So I can leave them there.
3. I don’t “game”on the thing but nothing like a fast machine.
4. Wife has a Hp all in one, but it’s a all in one.
Thanks

It sounds more like a power supply issue, possibly a hard drive issue as well.

If you are only worried about the files (ie: you are looking for an excuse to buy a new computer) just pull the hard drive out and USB it to either your wife's computer or your new one (when it comes in) then copy over the files you are wanting to keep (tip: they will usually be in:

C:\Users\whateveryourprofilenamewas\
-Desktop
-Documents
-Videos
-Pictures
-Music

You can copy them into some place where you archive files or you can just copy them over to the same place on the new computer.

If you use Internet Explorer then you can copy over (then replace) the Favorites folder as well. (if you use Chrome just log into your Chrome account and your Favorites should be there).

If you end up looking at new machines. Make sure you get one with a Solid State Drive (SSD). That alone will speed up a machine tremendously.

What's your budget?

Getting the pics off of the machine isn't impossible but probably outside of your pay grade so maybe pay somebody to do that.

Yep. I was thinking the same thing. About $800 for a new unit. I’d consider a larger monitor, but the 21” works fine.

Test the Power Supply before you do anything else. This method actually works. Video

When I worked for CenturyTel I had a similar call one day. They had picked up a free dialup software CD, got it home and their computer wouldn't work.

You may have inferred "they installed the software" and you would be wrong. They came home with the CD still in the shrink-wrap, had not done anything with it but since their computer wouldn't start up they called me to try to blame the software.

The worst part is that the reason their computer wouldn't turn on is because their power was out. #IShitYouNot

Yes unfortunately it’s plugged in to the power strip. Everything else works on the power strip. I even unplugged it from the strip and plugged it directly into outlet - nothing
