Hopefully they took advantage of that paid trip to college and got a degree to use post football career

Too much to ask?

A lot of the time they are salesmen or coaches

A lot of companies will pay athletes to be “salesmen” - ie come with them on sales calls and show them off like a prized turnip

Most have private trainers that they work with to stay in shape. If they ever get that call, they need to be ready to go that instant. If a free agent guy gets called up and he's out of shape, his career may forever be done.

Ive had friends who were in this predicament. For work, some will get a job at a gym as a fitness instructor. I knew a guy who became a real estate agent(and loved it so much that he dropped football completely) then there's also lawncare, warehouse work, become a barber, etc.

From what I know most try to find work somewhere that it won't be a big deal to just up and leave whenever they do get that call.

XFL, then some prison time for drug sales, then move back to their home town and sell tires.
