After hunting with both calibers, a 45-70 is great out to around 200:yards, while a 35 Whalen is an excellent 300 yard caliber. I used my 45-70:in primitive weapon season. I have used my TC 35 Whalen all firearm season long. Those 225 and 250 grain bullets are hard to beat.
