Going to a match in Madrid where they are facing Levante FC.
How is the atmosphere at Madrid's home stadium?
Should I buy and wear a Real Madrid Jersey? Right now I am a casual Chelsea fan but this will be my first ever live soccer match so I may switch allegiances.

You can wear your Barca jersey no problem. Very friendly crowd in Madrid.

Bring a sandwich, only food they have is popcorn. It looks like a picnic in the stands at halftime.
We sat in the upper deck, so they had some neutrals, but most of the people had some Real gear on.
The atmosphere is close to that of a big time college football team. The game I went to was against Betis, so similar quality opponent. It’ll still be awesome and loud, you’ll have a great time.

Make sure you bring cigs or a mask

Sorta tangential, but what are the unspoken policies of cigs in stadiums in western Europe? I’m sure it’s against the rules or whatever but I feel like I see people in the stands at Serie A or Bundi games ripping them all the time. Is it like college baseball stadiums (the ones that allow you to bring in booze) where as long as you aren’t super obvious ripping your cigs you won’t be reprimanded?

It's been my experience that people in a large portion of European and most of the Spanish countries smoke like freight trains. So I'm guessing no smoking rules may exist but aren't enforced.

I know German fans don’t give AF. Always see them smoking.

If they’re willing to light up road flares in the stands....
